Books to [Re]fill the Hunger Games Void
The Wilde Trials
by Mackenzie Reed
Chloe will do whatever it takes to win her elite boarding school’s annual competition, the Wilde Trials. In the two weeks leading up to graduation from Wilde Academy, a dozen seniors are chosen to compete in a series of seven ultimate physical and mental tests, and the winner will take home over half a million dollars—money that Chloe needs to help her sick sister.
Lightlark
by Alex Aster
Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The invitation is a summons–a call to embrace victory and ruin, baubles and blood. The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Each ruler has something to hide. Each realm’s curse is uniquely wicked. To destroy the curses, one ruler must die.
Scythe
by Neal Shusterman
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.
The Last Bookstore on Earth
by Lily Braun-Arnold
Seventeen-year-old Liz Flanner, holed up in an abandoned bookstore in suburban New Jersey since the first Storm wreaked havoc on civilization, finds herself at odds with Maeve, a potentially dangerous out-of-towner who breaks into the bookstore as another Storm approaches.
