New Fiscal Year – New BudgetIn the very early morning hours of Sept. 24, the City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2015 budget for the City of Jacksonville. After much debate, the Council voted to restore the previously approved budget lapse, which for the library would have meant $349,638 less to spend next year. Unfortunately, the across-the-board cut to overtime and the 10 percent reduction in the part-time budget remains. Read more.

Marking 100 years as federal depository library In August the Jacksonville Public Library, the third oldest Federal Depository Library Program library in Florida, marked a centennial milestone in storing and sharing history. U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown and former State Senator Tony Hill attended the centennial celebration and presented a proclamation from Mayor Alvin Brown recognizing the library for a century of public access to government documents. Theseimportant publications include everything from Continental Congress papers to the Warren Commission report to Watergate transcripts. Read more.

Board of Library Trustees welcomes new officers, new members The Jacksonville Public Library Board of Library Trustees has announced its new officers and new members. Serving as board officers are Erin Skinner as chair, Guy Anderson as vice chair, and Jackie Perry as secretary. Timothy Anderson, Charles Kleeman and Joshua La Bouef have been appointed as new board members. Immediate past Board of Library Trustees Chair Dr. Brenda Simmons-Hutchins will remain on the board as a member and will serve as the liaison to the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation. Construction & Service Updates
The Beaches Branch Library will remain open as improvements continue throughout the month.
Service at the Willowbranch Branch Library has been suspended until further notice due to water intrusion. The public is invited to a meeting for an update from the Public Works Department on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at Riverside Ave Christian Church, 2841 Riverside Ave. Councilman Jim Love is scheduled to attend.
