Children 3+
Storytime
Southside’s Preschool Storytime aims to foster a love for reading and stimulate imagination in young minds. Through engaging stories, interactive activities, and creative play, this storytime aims to create an enjoyable and educational experience for children aged 3 to 5.
Scavenger Hunt
This passive program is held within the children’s area of the library. It allows younger patrons to familiarize themselves with the library while completing the hidden message. Each month there is a new theme, hidden objects and a message or quote for the children to decode. Once they have completed the hunt, they turn in their message, and retrieve a prize!
Juvenile Programs 


Lego Club
 
Embark on a creative journey with our LEGO Club. This engaging program is tailored for those ages 6-11, providing an opportunity for children to come together and explore the wonderful world of LEGO building.
Rock Garden
 
This event is for children ages 6-11 to enjoy a hands-on art activity together. Participants will choose their favorite stones and transform them into colorful, whimsical pieces of art that can be added to a community rock garden or taken home as unique keepsakes. The rock garden would be housed on the library property.
 
Science Saturdays
 
Calling all young scientists ages 6-11! Join us for Science Saturday at the library, where we'll explore exciting experiments, hands-on activities, and fascinating discoveries. It's the perfect way to spark curiosity and have fun with science, from egg-rockets to creating your own slime!
Special Programming
 
Look to our online calendar to stay in the know about all spring and holiday events. St. Patrick's Day puzzle wreath, rock garden painting, Creek Week, Earth Day, tie-dye crafts and much more!
Teens 13-18
Financial Literacy for Teens  
Join us in an evening hosted by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension to learn about financial literacy basics! During these sessions, participants will be engaged in the process of setting financial goals and making financial goals. Registration is not required.
 
 
Adults
Book Walk
First Saturday of the Month 10 a.m.
Book Walk is a walking book club hosted by the Southside Branch Library that begins at the Cobblestone Farmers Market entrance and continues around Washington Park and back. Grab some comfortable shoes, a water bottle and join us as we discuss this month’s thriller or horror. Get your copy from the Southside Library front desk. Registration and RSVP is required online. Any changes due to weather conditions will be sent out the morning of the meeting. Use the link below to join!
 
 
Southside Book Club
Second Monday of the Month at 6 p.m.
This traditional and well-established book club provides dynamic conversations and excellent snacks. We have eclectic book choices that incorporate the tastes of the whole group. Get your copy of this month’s title at the Southside Library front desk. Use the link below to find out more.
 
 
Gardening Workshops
We have an array of gardening workshops coming to the Southside Branch Library. Gardening for well-being, attracting pollinators and how to plant and nurture a tree are just a few of the upcoming themes. Register for a class through our online calendar!
Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program
EFNEP
A 6-week series of interactive nutrition education sessions that: 
- Are based on a needs assessment of current diet and physical activity behaviors
- Include food experiences, tastings, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to engage participants and increase skills
- Include opportunities to practice simple physical activities
- Connection and referral to additional assistance and educational resources within the community
