Children 3+
Preschool Storytime
Southside’s Preschool Storytime aims to foster a love for reading and stimulate imagination in young minds. Through engaging stories, interactive activities, and creative play, this storytime aims to create an enjoyable and educational experience for children aged 3 to 5.
Scavenger Hunt
This passive program is held within the children’s area of the library. It allows younger patrons to familiarize themselves with the library while completing the hidden message. Each month there is a new theme, hidden objects and a message or quote for the children to decode. Once they have completed the hunt, they turn in their message, and retrieve a prize!
Juvenile Programs
Twist, Tie and Dye
 
Come to our tie-dye workshop to create your own colorful design on a pillowcase. We’ll provide all the needed materials, and you'll leave with a unique piece of art. Registration online required.
Edgy Veggie - Carrot Dogs!
 
July is Edgy Veggie Carrot Dog Month. Chef Davis will demonstrate how to transform a plain carrot into the star of your cookout. For ages 6 to 11. Registration is required. Children ages 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Science Saturdays
 Calling all young scientists ages 6-11! Join us for Science Saturday at the library, where we'll explore exciting experiments, hands-on activities, and fascinating discoveries. It's the perfect way to spark curiosity and have fun with science.
Fold and Fun 
Boost your creativity and focus by learning the art of paper folding to create various shapes and figures. We’ll also have books and materials available to you to help you continue the fun at home. Recommended for children ages 6-11.
Books and Brushes: DIY Totes
Children ages 3-11 are invited to design and paint their own canvas tote bags to use at the library. This fun, hands-on program encourages creativity and helps children to get excited about borrowing books.
Memories in the Margins: DIY Bookmarks
Encourage kids to read and be creative by making photo bookmarks. We’ll provide all the needed supplies, and they’ll leave with personalized keepsakes for their favorite books. Registration required. Recommended for children ages 3-11.
Teens 13-18
Hybrid Teen Bookclub
Three Forsyth County Public Library branches -- Clemmons Branch, Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center, and Southside Branch -- host this book club, and teens can be part of the club in person at one of the branches or virtually via Zoom. 
Teens will read and discuss a different book or graphic novel every month. Copies of each month's selection will be available at each branch. 
June's selection is Sadie by Courtney Summers.
Registration is required. Teens who register for the virtual event will receive a link to the Zoom meeting on the day of the event. 
 
 

Neon Night: Painting for Teens
Join us for Neon Night, a special glow-in-the-dark painting program exclusively for teens! Express your creativity and make luminous artworks in a fun, relaxed setting. All materials will be provided.

Book Walk
First Saturday of the Month 10 a.m.
Book Walk is a walking book club hosted by the Southside Branch Library that begins at the Cobblestone Farmers Market entrance and continues around Washington Park and back. Grab some comfortable shoes, a water bottle and join us as we discuss this month’s thriller or horror. Get your copy from the Southside Library front desk. Registration and RSVP is required online. Southside Book Club
Second Monday of the Month at 6 p.m.

Paint and Pop!
A free, guided painting class for adults on Saturday, June 21st. Register for a class through our online calendar (link above) or by calling the Southside Branch Library.
Yoga Classes
Yoga classes every Tuesday at 10 a.m., starting July 1st.
The classes will alternate between Yoga for Beginners and Chair Yoga. These classes are designed for all levels, abilities and mobility. All classes are led by Certified Yoga Teacher, Jane Holtje. All needed supplies including mats, blocks, straps and water are provided but each class is limited to 10 participants so be sure to register online (link above) or by calling the Southside Library.
