January 17, 2026 @ 10am Hosted by the McHenry Library and the McHenry County Genealogical Society Join genealogists from the McHenry Library and the McHenry County Genealogical Society to learn how to start researching your own family history. Topics we will cover include where to find and how to cite genealogical evidence. Also covered is the important, but often overlooked, skill of organizing your genealogical research This is the second program in a series given by the McHenry Library and the McHenry County Genealogical Society. February 25, 2026 @ 7pm Live via Zoom! This presentation (with accompanying handout) explores a research methodology that can break down genealogical brick walls. We will discuss timelines as a means of identifying research gaps, genealogical research checklists for identifying sources that may fill those gaps, and research logs that keep us organized. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. Presented by professional genealogist, Katherine Wilson.

Saturday, January 17, 2 PM On October 2, 1943, eight-year-old Steen Metz and his family were forcibly taken from their home in German-occupied Denmark to the desolate Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. Join us as Steen Metz recounts his powerful story, to ensure that the horrors of the Holocaust are neither forgotten nor repeated. Copies of his book, A Danish Boy in Theresienstadt, which will be available for purchase at the event by cash or check. Registration is requested for this event.

Chapters include "Beginnings in Illinois," "The Period of Conquest," "Christian Education" and more. Genealogists will benefit from over 170 pages of biographical sketches of notable Disciples. A new index of full names has been compiled for this edition. (Heritage Books)
