Have You Tried historypin?

Historypin has been around for a while now, but has been really improving with technology and user input. Historypin's basic concept is similar to Google Earth or Maps, using pins to mark historical areas, people, etc. They use photos pinned by individuals, different topics such as civil rights, give the history of a specific building, or mark political events like the campaign for John F. Kennedy in 1960. Be sure to check this interesting site out!
