According to Reading Rockets, talking counts, and most words come from building up a child's vocabulary. This can be achieved by reading books, watching films and TV shows, and engaging in conversations with people in their lives. A few activities you can do to enhance a child's talking skills are: - Talk about the things in the neighborhood or what you see driving around town.
- When reading, pause to ask questions such as 'What do you think will happen next?'
- Use new and exciting words when talking about things. For example, 'That building is gigantic! It is so big!'
- Tell children stories about your life, or make up stories. This helps develop personal identity and imagination.

Do you need a rhyme? Fingerplay: “Here’s a Hill” Here’s a hill (tilt left arm so that it forms a hill) And here’s a hill (tilt right arm so that it forms a hill) All covered with snow (raise hands up, bring down in slow motion) I’ll put on my coat (put coat on) And jump on my sled (hold the rope of a sled) And ZOOM, down the hill I will go! (clap hands, slide hands down)
