Peninsula Libraries 8th Annual Comic Arts Fest and Burlingame Library present Comics as a Way of Thinking with Nick Sousanis Author Talk and Comics Workshop
Nick Sousanis, author of Unflattening and professor of Comics Studies at SFSU will present on his experiences writing and drawing his doctoral dissertation entirely in comics form. In this presentation and workshop, Nick will explore the importance of visual thinking and comics-making as both an educator and artist. Nick will also lead us in a quick comics-making workshop to put comics as a way of thinking into practice. Materials will be provided, just bring a willingness to play! You are also welcome to bring your favorite notebook or drawing utensil.

My Body to Love: Documentary Screening & Sharing Circle Tuesday April 30 at 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM Lane Room
Join us for a short documentary film screening of My Body to Love - Arjun's Story. This film is the first in a multi- part film series by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Preeti Mankar Deb. The films use personal stories to explore the complexities of identity, sexuality, and relationships in adolescence. The filmmaker Preeti will be joined by the film’s main subject Arjun Sheth who is now a sex educator and dancer, and Alison Swisher who will help facilitate the sharing circle.
The West Bay Community Band performs a mixture classical and popular songs for an hour concert in the Reading Room.

Poetry Month at the Burlingame Public Library Poetry is Magical from April 1-30, 2024 for grades TK-5 Elementary-age children are invited to write an original poem, bring it to the Main Burlingame Library or Easton Branch Library between April 1-30 and receive a free paperback book of poetry!
The two schools with the highest per capita participation will receive a large stuffed Dragon for their school library.
Poem must be turned in by individual student and it is a limit of one poetry book per student.

Teens and Adults are invited to join us for a series of intergenerational poetry workshops centering mental health with Youth Poet Laureate Lauren Lin. Workshops will take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:30pm, starting December 7, 2023 through April 18, 2024 and no previous poetry experience is needed! Refreshments will be provided at each workshop. Workshops will culminate in an optional May 2024 open mic performance for Mental Health Awareness Month.

Burlingame Book Club
The Burlingame Book Club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month and is run by a community member, but the library assists the group in acquiring the book selections. The group chooses a year's worth of selections at the December meeting.

The Great Conversations Book Club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10:30 AM and is a community book club that meets in the Library, but is not staffed by the Burlingame Public Library. The Library assists the group in acquiring reading materials and booking a meeting space. The group's reading selections are based off of materials from the Great Books Foundation.
