Overheard: What People are Saying About Audiobooks in NoveList Plus
We've been getting lots of feedback about the recent release of NoveList Plus, and wanted to share some of that feedback.
"I am THRILLED that you now have audiobook recommendations! Happy, happy, happy...!!" -- Heather Parker, Library Assistant
"We look forward to librarians incorporating this into their 'listeners' advisory as they help guide their patrons in making exciting listening choices." -- Michele Cobb, President of the Audio Publishers Association
“NoveList has taken a huge step forward in helping librarians make audiobook suggestions and find listen-alikes by including appeal language specifically designed for audiobooks and providing multiple audio reviews as well. These additions are a boon to RA librarians dealing with the rise in audiobook popularity, and should help librarians feel more confident about expanding their RA offerings to listeners as well as readers.” -- Neal Wyatt, Readers' Advisory Expert

Subject Headings: Creating a Bridge to Good Recommendations

I wanted to chat about how subject headings can do the same. Remember that book with a black and red cover that you weren’t sure who the author or what the title was, but you know it had teenagers and werewolves? Subject headings are a great way to find those elusive books... Continue Reading

New Genre in NoveList: Southern Gothic Fiction
As you may know, NoveList has been hard at work taking a close look at our genre headings. One of the recent genre headings that has come out of this work is Southern gothic fiction. If you want to read books that explore the South through the grotesque, often with with flawed, damaged characters and a strong sense of place, look no further. Try a genre search (GN Southern gothic fiction) in NoveList and you will find titles by such notable authors as Flannery O'Connor, William Faulkner, and Carson McCullers as well as more contemporary authors like Cormac McCarthy and Daniel Woodrell. As we continue refining our genre headings, we would love to hear from you! Are we missing your favorite genre (Southern fiction, perhaps)? Drop us a line!
