Mermaids are having a moment. Nineteen-year-old singer Halle Bailey is making a splash as Disney's choice to play Ariel in their upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Also, it's not uncommon to see wheelchair users reclaiming the mermaid as a glamorous icon of disability. And how many kids do you know named Madison?

 

That said, I felt inspired to celebrate our favorite sea creature with a flyer featuring picture books starring mermaids of color. Whether they are folkloric, like in Donald Uluadluak's The People of the Sea or fashionable, like the costumed revelers in Julián is a Mermaid, finned folks are for everyone.
