Unless you've been living under a (space) rock, you've probably heard by now that various pockets of the Internet have "plans" to storm Area 51 on September 20th. Though marketed as a joke back in June, the event quickly went viral -- more than two million people have responded that they are "going" on the Facebook event page, and event organizer Matty Roberts just announced that he'll host a three-dayAlienstock Festivalin nearby Rachel, Nevada (shades of Fyre Festival, anyone?). Even NoveList's favorite cowboy Lil Nas X got in on the fun, releasing an Area 51-themed music videofor a remix of his smash hit "Old Town Road." And let's not forget about the memes.
While I can't stress enough how much trespassing on federal property is, uh...not a great idea, there's definitely a way folks can enjoy the spectacle from afar! Hand the below extraterrestrial-themed reads to your patrons who may be intrigued by all the hubbub but also value their own safety. Search subject headings DE Aliens, DE UFOs, DE Paranormal phenomena, or DE Human/alien encountersin NoveList Plusfor more picks.

P.S. Like all great things in life (including the event we've just discussed!), this email started out as a joke. Shout out to NoveList's own Molly Wyand for giving me the idea after jokingly asking if I'd write a blog post about nonfiction resources for storming Area 51. And yes, I believed she was serious.
