Welcome, Torie Tatum! Torie is our new library assistant at the Lewisville Branch Library. Torie previously worked for Forsyth County Public Library and Greensboro Public Library as a youth services librarian. Torie has traveled abroad and lived in Scotland for a time. She enjoys reading all types of genres and can't wait to assist our customers in finding their next favorite book. Please join us in welcoming Torie to our community.

FCPL Lewisville Branch Reading Contest Logs due Dec. 13
Take part our yearlong reading contest for your chance to win a $25 gift card to Bookmarks. The contest has two levels: Beginner and Aficionado. You can choose to read one or both levels. Beginner entries are entered once. Aficionado entries are entered twice, and if both levels are completed, you're entered four times to win. Submit entries by Saturday, Dec. 12. The winner will be announced on Monday, Dec. 14.

Belly Dancing for Beginners Friday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. Auditorium Get your shimmy on! Put on some comfortable clothes and shoes and join us at Belly Dancing for Beginners. learn the basic moves of this beautiful dance form as we bring people of all ages together to promote health, happiness, and community. Hook & Loop Group Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. Auditorium Come and join yarn crafters who like to knit, crochet, embroider, and such. Share each other’s company and maybe a tip or two about a project. Bring your own project to work on or use some simple supplies and patterns we have on hand. All skill levels are welcome. Books for Dudes Book Club Thursday, Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. Are you a dude who likes to read? Are you a dude who is curious what other dudes are reading? Are you a dude who wants to get back into reading, but doesn’t know where to start? Then the Lewisville Branch Library has the perfect book club for you. Join us as dudes share, discuss, and recommend their favorite books to other dudes. There will not be a pre-set reading list. The group is recommended for dudes, but all are welcome.

Tai Chi for Beginners Friday, Jan. 9 and 23 at 2 p.m. Auditorium Learn the calming practice of Tai Chi at the Lewisville Branch Library. This form of low-impact exercise and deep breathing is known to reduce stress and improve balance, strength, and flexibility.
An exercise waiver is required, and attendees younger than 18 must have a parental/guardian's signature. Registration opens two weeks before the Jan. 9 and Jan. 23 class and is required.

eBirding 101 Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. Auditorium Take your birding to new heights with eBird, a valuable, a free app for birders of all experience levels. A professional bird guide from the Forsyth Audubon Society will explain how to create a checklist, record birds seen and/or heard, then submit the checklist via the app to share observations among a worldwide community of birders, researchers, and conservationists.

Lewisville Historical Society Presents ... Ancestry & Imagination: The Origin Stories of "American Janus" and "American Achilles" with Author Douglas Shouse Monday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. Mary Alice Warren Community Center Delve back to the eras of the Civil War, Reconstruction and The Great War with local author Douglas Shouse at the next meeting of the Lewisville Historical Society. Shouse will share the personal backstories and core storylines of two historical fiction novels from his Southern Warrior Series: American Janus: A Novel of the South and its Reckoning with the Civil War and Reconstruction (2023) and American Achilles: A Novel of the South and the Great War (2025). Both novels are rooted in Winston, Bethania, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Copies will be available for purchase following the presentation, which the author will be happy to sign. In partnership with the Lewisville Branch Library, the Lewisville Historical Society hosts bimonthly presentations ranging from local history to information about historical sites to antiquities. Participants do not need to be members of the society to attend. A short business meeting of the society is held before the featured program begins at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments are served. Wood Carving Demonstration Thursday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. Auditorium Stop by for a wood carving demonstration by the Triad Woodcarvers Club. The accomplished carvers will demonstrate their craft, display their work, share information about the club, and answer any questions that you may have. The group will also demonstrate pyrography, the art of burning designs onto wood.

Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group for Teens Monday, Jan. 5 from 4-5:30 p.m. Auditorium Have you ever wanted to learn to play Dungeons & Dragons? Are you an experienced player who would like a place to meet up and have adventures? Join the Lewisville Branch Dungeons & Dragons meetup group! The game board, dice, and character sheets will be provided. This program is recommended for teens, but all are welcome. Light snacks will be provided. Signed food waiver required. Pokémon Club Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. Auditorium Play battle games, meet up with other fans, trade cards, and more at the Pokémon Club. The Lewisville Branch chapter of the club meets every first Wednesday, and the Clemmons Branch Chapter meets on the third Wednesday of the month. Players of all abilities are welcome. Program is recommended for children, teens, tweens, and families.

Join us for Money Smart-a fun, no-stress series where you'll learn how to budget, save, and spend smarter. Plus, discover cool books and digital tools to boost your money game! This program is presented in conjunction with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center. This month we'll discuss how to create a spending and saving plan as well as ways to increase income and decrease expenses.

STEAM for Tweens: Polar Bear Science Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. Auditorium Explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math at our monthly STEAM programs. Step into the Arctic! Tweens will explore the science of polar bear survival as they test “blubber gloves,” engineer a polar bear den from toothpicks and marshmallows, and create their own fluffy fake snow. Join us for a frosty hour of hands-on STEAM fun—no winter coat required! Recommended for children 6-12.

Eat Smart With MyPlate: Energy Balls Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. Auditorium Kids will have fun learning about healthy eating, smart food choices, and nutrition through hands-on activities, games, and delicious food demos. This program is a great way to build healthy habits. Recommended for children ages 6-11. This month, kids will be making energy balls that are easy to make and awesome treat to have for snack time . Friends Ongoing Book Sale The Friends' ongoing book sale is always open during library hours. New donations are currently suspended until further notice. PRICES: Hardbacks - $2 Paperbacks - $1 Children's books - $.50 Movies, music, audiobooks - $2 Magazines - $.25 Become a Friends Board Member The Friends of the Lewisville Library Board is looking for new members. As a board member, you'd take an active role in shaping the future of the organization, allocating funds, fundraising and recruiting new members. If you're looking for a way to volunteer in your community and support the library at the same time, then this is a perfect place to start. The board meets at the Lewisville Branch Library every third Monday at 2 p.m. except in January, July and December. The next meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m.
