Instead of focusing on a specific book, Jennifer's book club centers on a particular theme. Each month, she selects a theme and presents a dozen fiction and nonfiction books as suggestions for her members, but they are always free to choose their own book. In her experience, patrons appreciate that there is no guilt surrounding whether or not they read "the book." During the meeting, the discussion centers around how the book expresses the theme.
Jennifer was kind enough to share her experiences, including:
- Examples of the themes
- How the discussion works
- Where to find discussion questions
- How to get participants on the same page
- What the discussion leader should know about the topic
- How to find readers
