RA Tips
When my library system first added audiobooks to our collection (books on cassette, anyone?) they were immensely popular and added a new facet to our readers' advisory work.

We did our best to match books in the audio format and I now realize that we were actually doing our best to match by appeal.
Of course, that's a lot easier these days -- thanks to some of these resources just for your library's audiophiles!

Keep reading (or listening!) ~ Krista

Have you heard? We have listen-alikes!
NoveList partners with Audiofile to bring NoveList Plus subscribers great audiobook information. Our custom audio appeals cover everything from the performance (full cast or read by the author) to the narrator's voice quality, tone, and artistic delivery.

Sometimes it's the storyteller who makes the story great.
One of my favorite ways to find new "listen-alikes" is to search by a narrator the reader already knows and likes. For me, that's Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (he voiced the Rivers of London series) #swoon.

In NoveList Plus, NR is the field code to search by narrator.
→ NR Kobna Holdbrook-Smith
(Psst, here's a handy cheat sheet of NoveList Audio Field Codes!)
Ask: What's special about this narrator?
Find a title that author has narrated using NoveList Plus, and
look at its Audio Characteristics. For Holdbrook-Smith, I chose Broken Homes
→ Audio Characteristics: Character accents; Distinctly voiced; Well-characterized; Wry

Next, scroll down to look at the Search for More area.
Check the matching characteristics and click search. Voìla! Listen-alikes for you.
(And here's a cheat sheet of all the NoveList Audio Appeal Terms.)

Make your own audio flyer

LibraryAware customers can reimagine the flyer to the right by populating it with audio characteristics: Gravelly in line one. Melodious for line two. Choose more from the list of audio appeal terms.
