The Unexpected Lives of Ordinary Girls

Written by J. Anderson Coats

The Unexpected Lives of Ordinary Girls is a look at life in America in 1910 from the perspective of Sylvia, the daughter of immigrants. While girls of that time were expected to help with housework, care for siblings and eventually marry, Sylvia has a different dream: to finish school and enroll in college. Inspired by events in her own grandmother’s life, J. Anderson Coats weaves a charming, yet realistic, tale of historical fiction. Bonus: libraries play a huge role in Sylvia’s journey!
