Hello Readers, Have you been to library recently to see our updates? The renovation isn’t finished yet, but the restrooms are open and some new furniture is out. The adult and teen materials are in their permanent locations in the library. The current location of our children’s materials is just a portion of what will be the children’s area when construction is finished. We hope you’ll come visit us soon! Below are three reviews of children’s books that I’ve read within the last month. The easy reader and board book are new releases that have been added to our collection, and the chapter book is an older one that I highly recommend. If your young reader could use some reading recommendations, don't hesitate to reach out for suggestions! Knowing their age, reading level, and topics of interest can help us find the right book for them. Keep in mind, if we don’t have a copy of a book here in our library, you can always place a hold and have it delivered here from another library. We also have plenty of digital materials available through Libby and Hoopla! Happy Reading, Megan

A Fairy Finds Her Song written and illustrated by Bea Jackson This level one easy reader is an excellent choice for fans of fairies! Lily, one of three fairy friends, hasn't yet received her special talent. With the help of her human friend, Lily identifies her unique gift. What I liked most about this book is that Lily was able to rely on friends and stay positive despite feeling uncertain about her talent. The charming illustrations depict serene settings in nature and add to the magical feel of the story. An interesting fact about the author/illustrator is that she lives relatively close in Detroit, Michigan.

A Day in the Forest written by Alexandra Claire This new board book features vibrant photos of animals that are sure to catch your little one's eye. While many board books use cartoon artwork or digitally created illustrations, the use of photos in this one is a welcome change of pace. Spend a day with various forest friends as you move from the sunrise on page one to the night sky on the final page. Practice skills like naming animals, color recognition, and counting as you read aloud with your child. Flipping through the pages of this book will feel like a brief respite in nature.

Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth written by Frank Cottrell Boyce A coworker recommended this 2017 chapter book to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The recommended reading age is 8-12, but even as an adult, I found the content and writing style humorous and enjoyable. Prez, the protagonist of the novel, is in foster care due to his grandfather's memory issues. While placed with a family in the countryside, Prez meets Sputnik, an alien who appears as a kid to Prez but a dog to everyone else. Sputnik has a mission while visiting Earth: identify 10 reasons why Earth is worth saving. The two work together through hilarious and heartwarming events as they compile the list. Will Prez and his grandfather be reunited? Will Sputnik and Prez save the planet? Check out the book to find out!
