Welcome to November in the Children's Library!

November brings a season of gratitude, creativity, and cozy fun to the Children’s Library. As the days grow cooler, we have plenty of exciting programs and activities to keep young readers and families engaged all month long. Our regular storytimes will be on break starting the week of November 24 and will return the week of January 5, 2026, but there’s still plenty happening in November before our storytime break begins.

Our popular Tween S.T.E.A.M. Team meets again on Wednesday, November 12 at 4:00 p.m. in the Talbert Room for a STEAM activity just for ages 8–12. Join us to explore, create, and learn something new.

Please note, the Wise Owl Book Club will not be meeting in November.

On Saturday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. in the Talbert Room, celebrate all things gnomes at our whimsical Gnomevember Celebration. Enjoy an afternoon filled with gnome-themed games, crafts, and a delightful photo op. Whether you’re crafty or curious, this magical celebration is perfect for families and children of all ages.

There’s still time to register for the In-N-Out Reading Program for ages 4–12! Sign up on Beanstack and start logging your reading through November 15. All reading must be logged by November 15 to count toward the challenge, and burger cards are available while supplies last through November 22.

Get cozy at Pajama Storytime on Monday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Tabby Theater. Kids ages 5–9 and their families are invited to wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal for an evening of stories, songs, and family fun. Free tickets are required and available at the Children’s Desk the evening of storytime.

On Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tabby Theater, join us for Dance Along with Ballet Etudes. Children will learn basic ballet movements and dance along with members of Huntington Academy of Dance’s Ballet Etudes youth company. Free tickets are available the morning of the event at the Children’s Desk.

All month long, join the Gnome Scavenger Hunt Adventure in the Children’s Department. From November 1–30, grab a scavenger hunt sheet and search for our mischievous gnome friends hiding around the department. Collect all the secret letters to solve the riddle and claim your prize while supplies last. Keep your eyes open, gnomes are sneaky, small, and love to hide.

Please note: All Library branches will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day, and Thursday–Friday, November 27–28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Sing & Rhyme: Building Literacy Through Music and Rhythm

Singing simple songs and nursery rhymes with your child is a fun and effective way to develop early literacy skills. The rhythm and repetition in songs help children hear the smaller sounds in words, an important step toward learning to read. Try singing during daily routines like bath time or car rides, or make up your own silly rhymes together. Don’t worry about being on key, your child loves your voice! The joy and connection you share while singing and rhyming build both language skills and happy memories.

Looking for fun books to read to your child? Visit the library and ask a librarian for suggestions based on your child’s age and interests. Don’t forget to check our Event Calendar for upcoming events and activities programs!
