Wear your comfy shoes and spend time browsing our BIG Fall book sale! We have been saving thousands of books (and lots of DVDs) just for you. Whether you want to find a nearly new copy of a recent best seller, or if you are hunting for an obscure nonfiction title, check us out. We may have what you’re looking for – and more! Thursday, October 17: 12pm – 6pm Friday, October 18: 12pm – 6pm Saturday, October 19: 10am – 5pm Would you like to volunteer during the sale to help straighten tables and assist customers? Giving Tuesday is December 3! Save the date for our third annual Giving Tuesday campaign! Generous donors have pledged to match up to $5,000 that day. We’re hoping for our most successful Giving Tuesday yet! Stay tuned for details.

Feeling Crafty? Calling all crafty folks! The Holiday Booktique returns this December! We will begin collecting donations of small handcrafted items to sell in the library in November. We’re looking for a variety of items that can be priced reasonably for most folks – scarves, hats, stuffed animals, jewelry, decorations for the home, etc.

Want to Help More? Do you have experience planning a fundraising event? Would you like to share your skills and talents, or do you want to learn more about event planning? Join us! The ACLA is planning to hold a major fundraiser in April 2020. We need volunteers to help with planning the event, securing corporate donations, planning additional fundraising activities to incorporate at the event, such as a silent auction, and more. Please contact Terri Palmer, volunteer@alohalibrary.org, if you are interested in learning more. We will schedule planning meetings beginning in October.

Messy Arts & Crafts Tuesday, October 1st, from 10:30 to 11:30am For ages 0 to 6 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Let your little one’s creativity run wild with sensory arts and crafts every 1st Tuesday of the month. It’s okay to make a mess!

Nature Mobile: Camouflage Costumes! Wednesday, October 2nd from 3:30 to 4:30pm For all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children).
See how different animals and bugs blend in (or stand out) with their habitats! During this month’s Nature Mobile visit, we’ll learn about what camouflage is and how Oregon’s living things use their skin, size, shape, and color to survive.

STEM Lab: Spooky Escape Room Wednesday, October 9th from 3:30 to 4:30pm For children ages 5 to 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Registration is required for this program. Please register in advance by visiting the library or calling us at 503-259-0185. It’s October, which means spooks, frights, and scares abound! Let’s get ready for national train your brain day and put our heads together for some frighteningly serious puzzle solving in our escape room! Can you get out in time?

Engineering Lab Saturday, October 12th from 10:30am to 12:00pm For ages 3-13. There will be small pieces that may present a choking hazard to children under 3. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Let’s build! We’ll have LEGOs, K’Nex, Magna-Tiles, and more. Come with your thinking caps and get ready to create!

Mondays, October 14th and 28th from 5:00 to 6:00pm For ages 5 to 13 years. Registration is required for this program. Please register in advance by visiting the library or calling us at 503-259-0185. Need practice reading? Sign up for a session of Reading Buddies at the Aloha Community Library! Kids can improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a trained therapy animal. Read with a dog on second Mondays, or with a cat on fourth Mondays. Sessions are 15 minutes each between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.

Pajama Storytime Tuesday, October 15th from 6:30 to 7:00pm For ages 2 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Put on your favorite pajamas and join us for a cozy evening of stories, songs, and fun for the whole family!

LEGO Free Play Wednesday, October 23rd from 3:30 to 4:30pm For children ages 5 to 13. All children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Come explore your creativity with LEGOs every 4th Wednesday of the month! Spend the afternoon creating masterpieces out of the legendary colorful building blocks. We’ll provide the LEGOs; you provide imagination!

Family Movie Thursday, October 24th from 4:00 to 6:00pm All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum 1 adult per 5 children). Grab your popcorn and join us for a family movie every 4th Thursday at the library! In this heartwarming adventure, Miguel, a young boy who dreams of becoming a musician, finds himself trapped in the land of the dead and must discover the real story of his family to return to the land of the living.

Halloween Fun at the Library Thursday, October 31st from 12:00 to 6:00pm For all ages. Drop in any time during open hours on Halloween for hauntingly fun crafts and activities. Make the library your first trick or treat stop to show off your costumes for candy and other goodies!

Toddler Storytime Mondays from 10:30 to 11:00am For ages 18 to 36 months. Toddler Storytime takes place every Monday at 10:30 am! Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, dances, and activities aimed at children between the ages of 18 and 36 months. Adults are expected to sit with children and participate.

Preschool Storytime Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:00am For ages 3 to 6 years. An interactive storytime for children and their grown-ups filled with stories, songs, rhymes, and activities geared toward getting kids ready to read. Adults are expected to sit with children and participate.

Preschool Storytime: Halloween Takeover! Wednesday, October 30th from 10:30 to 11:30am For ages 3 to 6 years. Our regular Preschool Storytime gets a ghoulishly fun makeover just in time for Halloween! Wear your costumes and get ready for a spooktacular storytime filled with songs, stories, tricks and treats in celebration of one of our favorite holidays.

Teen Tech Lab Tuesday, October 1st from 3:30 to 5:00pm For teens in grades 6 to 12 only. Whether you want to play Fortnite with your friends or try out some new tech gadgets, the Teen Tech Lab is for you! We’ll provide laptops, robots, makey makey boards, and more. Just bring yourself and come ready for some fun!

Graveyard Escape Room Thursday, October 10th from 3:30 to 5:00pm For teens in grades 6 to 12 only. Registration is required for this program. You bring the talent and we'll provide the tea, snacks, and quiet – not to mention a whole building full of research material and inspiration!

Monthly Matinée Friday, October 25th from 2:00 to 4:00pm Join us every fourth Friday of the month for an early afternoon matinée movie selected by our library staff! In October’s spooky rom-com, follow the antics of two vampiric socialites in New York City as they try to navigate both modern life and the dating scene.

Genealogy for Beginners Tuesday, October 29th from 6:00 to 7:30pm Learn how to use basic resources and techniques to get started on tracing your family history in this class by experienced genealogist Laurel Smith, who is the current Library Chair and a former President of the Genealogical Forum of Oregon.

Sit n Stitch Thursdays, October 3rd and 17th from 1:30 to 3:00pm Mondays, October 14th and 28rd from 6:00 to 7:30pm Bring your knitting, crochet, or other yarn project, and come join the Sit n Stitch group! Trade tips or simply enjoy the company of fellow crafters while you work on your latest creation.
