Dial-In Book Excerpts All month For adults. Feeling stir-crazy and ready to read something that takes you far away? We’re temporarily dedicating a phone line to book excerpts! Dial us up at 971-245-7734 to hear a brief reading of an excerpt from a book that’s set somewhere else. If you enjoy it and want to read more for yourself, you can leave us a message after the end of the recording, and we’ll be happy to help you request a copy to check out. We’ll be posting new recordings frequently for you to listen to, so call back regularly to travel someplace new! |
Teen Art Contest

Enter for a chance to have your artwork featured during the 2021 Summer Reading Challenge at select Washington County libraries and a $100 first place, or $50 second place prize! STEAM Take & Make: Bugs Monday, March 15th through Saturday, March 20th This month is all about bugs, bugs, bugs! Using only the supplies in the take and make kit, the March STEAM challenge is to build your very own bug! Create a model of your favorite crawly critter or invent your own imaginary insect. An optional challenge card is included for those who wish to take their bugs up a notch. We want to see your creativity run…crawl…or scurry wild! Grab your kit during holds pickup hours, Monday-Wednesday, 3-6 pm, or Thursday-Saturday, 10 am-1 pm while supplies last. When you’re done, please share your buggy creations with us! Bugdork University Wednesday, March 24th from 2:00 to 3:00pm For kids. Take a digital field trip with this Zoom workshop featuring entomologists and creepy crawly enthusiasts, the Bug Chicks! Learn about the science of entomology (the study of insects), and meet the Bug Chicks’ favorite live arthropods through the camera and up close with a Celestron digital microscope. One registration per household is required. |

LEGO Challenge: More Bugs!
March 28 through April 3
For kids. Prizes for the LEGO Challenge are temporarily on pause, but we still love to see your creations. The bug-filled month of March continues with, you guessed it, MORE BUGS! Invent your very own insect or arachnid using LEGO or DUPLO bricks. It can be cute, it can be creepy, it can be crawly, but most of all it should be creative! For a bonus challenge, create the ideal environment for your bug to live in. A nice, green leaf? A dark corner? A vegetable patch? It’s up to you! Please share your completed creations with us by having an adult take a picture and email it to info@alohalibrary.org or tag us on social media. |
