In the mood for a spooky read? The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor has an eerie setting (a secretive village in rural England), but more than anything, it is an engaging mystery. The new vicar in town gets thrown into the role of amateur sleuth and investigates a cold case that has never stopped haunting the close-knit community. Join our discussion live on Zoom on Wednesday, November 3rd from 6:30-7:30pm. Can't make it this month? Our next book, which we'll chat about on Wednesday, December 1st, will be Bel Canto by Ann Patchett.

Created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good, #GivingTuesday has developed into a global generosity movement – and it's coming up on Tuesday, November 30th, right around the corner. The Aloha Community Library Association, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, will be working to fundraise $10,000 on that date to benefit the library. We'll be spreading the word in the library, on our Facebook and Instagram, and through email, so stay tuned to learn how you can contribute! Don't want to wait for a specific date to support the library? We gratefully accept donations all year long. Give online or visit the library to donate in person.

Explore a particular film with us – sometimes popular, sometimes obscure – in each monthly newsletter! The last few installments have focused on widely celebrated films with culturally significant ripple effects. This time we're spotlighting an under-seen gem: Short Term 12. The movie follows the staff and residents of a short-term group home for children. Writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton worked in a similar facility before becoming a filmmaker.

ENGINEER IT! Exploring Ancient Technologies |
|
Build a shelter, design a boat, weave a basket, or invent a tool! Native Americans have long used science and engineering to develop tools, homes, clothing, cooking methods, and more – passing this knowledge down through generations. Many of these innovations are still being used today! Try out your own engineering skills while discovering technologies designed by Oregon's first engineers with take home kits provided by the Museum of Natural and Cultural History.

There's more going on at the library than just what we've got room for in this issue of our newsletter! Visit our online calendar to check out what we have scheduled this month for all ages.
