What's happening at YOUR library!
April 2021

A letter from the Director

Hello, Aloha community! What a year it has been. Please know how much your continuing support means to all of us! We understand that folks are ready to get back to normal, but we’re not quite there yet. Our small (but very scrappy) staff is making plans to increase services, but we have to determine how to do so safely with a very small number of people available to get work done and meet safety requirements. We will roll out more as our circumstances change locally. Stay tuned for news about exciting facility changes we are making to improve experiences when you are able to come inside again! Until then, visit us at holds pick up service, attend programs online, and schedule online or phone meetings with librarians to get your questions answered! Thanks so much – we really do miss you!

Terri Palmer/Library Director

Limited delivery service available

If you or someone you know is not able to visit the library to pick up holds, please give us a call. Patrons who live within a 10-minute drive of the library may be eligible for free delivery. We are not able to deliver to care facilities or assisted living. Deliveries will only be scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays, one delivery per household per week, limited spaces available. Call for details.

No Book Donation Drive in April

No book donation drive in April, while we focus on rearranging some furniture. The drive for May is also still up in the air – stay tuned for updates!

Aloha Community Library is now a food donation collection site!

Bring your non-perishable food donations to the library during holds pick up service, place them in the bin at the front door, and we will do the rest! Donations will be delivered to the Village Distribution Center in Beaverton (organized by Village Baptist Church; visit https://www.villagebeaverton.com/distributioncenter/ for more information), then dispersed to several nonprofits and Washington County programs serving our neighbors in need. We will collect food on an ongoing basis, so if you forget to drop it by one day, bring it the next time you visit.
What is most needed? Here are some ideas! Please just make sure that the food is not expired (or close to it): rice, pasta, pasta sauce, dried and canned beans, canned meat, canned fruit, fruit cups, microwavable food items such as soup and mac & cheese, cereal, granola/protein bars.

Feeling stir-crazy and ready to read something that takes you far away? We’re temporarily dedicating a phone line to book excerpts! Dial us up at 971-245-7734 to hear a brief reading of an excerpt from a book that’s set somewhere else. If you enjoy it and want to read more for yourself, you can leave us a message after the end of the recording, and we’ll be happy to help you request a copy to check out.

We’ll be posting new recordings frequently for you to listen to, so call back regularly to travel someplace new!
