Holiday Hours We're giving staff an extended break again this month! We'll be closed for the long weekend over Christmas, so stock up on books and movies ahead of time! Messy(ish) Arts and Crafts Take and Make Monday, November 30th through Saturday, December 5th What better way to decorate for the winter season than with some DIY snowflake shaped window clings? We’ll provide everything you need to create your own beautiful snowflakes – the template, glue, and glitter of course!
Stop by for your take and make kit during holds pickup hours, Monday-Wednesday, 3-6 pm, or Thursday-Saturday, 10 am-1 pm while supplies last. Once you’re done, please send us pictures of your creations! You can email them to info@alohalibrary.org or tag us on social media.

Virtual Family Storytime Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:00am Family Storytime is a fun filled live program for all ages with stories, songs, and rhymes geared toward getting kids hooked on reading. Come read, sing, dance, and play with us on Zoom here. We cannot wait to see you! Please note that we have taken as many precautions as possible to ensure security of live meetings, but there is always a chance that something unforeseen may happen. All virtual storytimes will be taking a little break for the holidays starting on December 22nd, but we will be back starting Tuesday, January 5! Have a safe and happy holiday season. Virtual Pajama Storytime Fridays from 10:30 to 11:00am Wear your comfiest pajamas and join librarians Katie and Jesse every Friday at 10:30 am! We’ll see our friends Narwhal and Unicorn, read and sing together, and look for Little Mouse. Use this link to access the meeting on Friday. We hope to see you there! Festive Origami Workshop Saturday, December 12th from 2:00 to 3:30pm For ages 8 to 18. Registration is required for this event. Join expert origami artist Yuki Martin for a live virtual origami workshop especially for kids and teens! Yuki will demonstrate how to use paper to create a variety of fun winter shapes with step by step instructions. For paper folders of all abilities, ages 8-18. Pre-registration is required to attend live, though a recording will be available after the workshop for those unable to register for the live program. Sign up here, then pick up your origami paper at the library starting December 7, Monday-Wednesday, 3-6 pm, or Thursday-Saturday, 10 am-1 pm.

Winter Welcome Party Saturday, December 19th, from 2:00 to 3:00pm Winter is just around the corner and we’re ready to celebrate with another live virtual party! Stop by the library to pick up your party kit with everything needed to participate, then join us on Zoom for snow inspired crafts, games, and treats on Saturday, December 19 at 2 pm. Kits will be available while supplies last during holds pickup hours starting December 14, Monday-Wednesday, 3-6 pm, or Thursday-Saturday, 10 am-1 pm. A Zoom link will be provided with the party kit.

LEGO Challenge: Happy New Year 2020 is almost over! Using LEGO or DUPLO blocks, build the thing you are most excited to do in the new year. Is it going back to in-person school? Taking a vacation? A birthday party with friends? We can’t wait to see what you come up with! Take a photo of your ghastly build and have an adult post it on social media and tag the library or send it to info@alohalibrary.org for a chance to win a $10 e-gift certificate to the LEGO store! Please share your creations by Sunday, November 29 to be eligible for the prize drawing. Winners will be notified the following week.

Dial-In Book Excerpts All month For adults. Feeling stir-crazy and ready to read something that takes you far away? We’re temporarily dedicating a phone line to book excerpts! Dial us up at 971-245-7734 to hear a brief reading of an excerpt from a book that’s set somewhere else. If you enjoy it and want to read more for yourself, you can leave us a message after the end of the recording, and we’ll be happy to help you request a copy to check out. We’ll be posting new recordings frequently for you to listen to, so call back regularly to travel someplace new!

Kanopy Film Club Fridays, December 4th and 18th at 4pm For adults. Twice a month, we host a Zoom discussion of a movie that is available through Kanopy, the movie streaming service that is free with your library card ( wccls.kanopy.com). Crafternoon: Coffee, Conversation, & Coloring Thursday, December 17th from 4:00 to 5:00pm For adults. This monthly program for adults alternates between guided craft projects and relaxing coloring sessions. Grab a beverage of your choice and join our conversation whether you’re participating in the coloring or not! Bring your own coloring sheets or stop by the library during curbside service hours (Mon-Wed @ 3-6 pm, Thu-Sat @ 10 am-1 pm) to pick some up.
