Madalyn's Games of the Moment As you can probably guess, the first question most patrons ask me is, "Madalyn, what's your favorite game?" The second question - and the one I'll be answering in this month's newsletter - is usually, "Can you recommend any great 2-player games?" Why, yes! I can! That being said, while there are many awesome games that work well with just two players, I'm choosing to highlight games for only two players. So, grab a game, grab a friend, and let the fun begin! 7 Wonders Duel is a condensed version of the original 7 Wonders. You'll build up your civilization and wonders just like in the original game, but this time it's a two-player race for victory. In my opinion, the solitaire-like layout of the cards and multiple paths to victory make it a great strategic game for two. I never really got into Chess, but I was immediately enamored of Onitama. While a player's movements in Chess are dictated by the specific piece being moved, movement in Onitama is dictated by a rotation of cards that both you and your opponent utilize throughout the game. It's a great thinking game - especially for those of us who like to think three turns in advance. Occasionally, I come across a game that's hard to encourage patrons and friends to play. Patchwork gets overlooked a lot because, well, the artwork isn't too eye-catching and the gameplay revolves around quilting. Sounds riveting, right? Well, it is! If you like pattern games like Tetris, then this is the game for you. So, I say you and your opponent should cozy up with a cup of tea and compete to make some awesome quilts!

Crystal Clans "Choose your clan, prepare for battle, and fight for control of powerful crystals in Crystal Clans, a battle card game for two players. In every game of Crystal Clans, you go to battle with unique armies, seeking to outmaneuver your opponent and lead your squad to victory. Six clans stand ready to battle for dominance, including the adaptable Water Clan, the peaceful Flower Clan, the relentless Skull Clan, the innumerable Blood Clan, the wise Meteor Clan, and the unyielding Stone Clan. Each clan's cards can be used in multiple ways, giving you more options and adding surprise to each battle. The first clan to claim four crystals wins the game and fulfills their destiny to dominate the world."

The Fox in the Forest "The Fox in the Forest is a trick-taking game for two players. Aside from the normal ranked—and suited—cards used to win tricks, fairy characters such as the Fox and the Witch have special abilities that let you change the trump suit, lead even after you lose a trick, and more. You score points by winning more tricks than your opponent, but don't get greedy! Win too many tricks, and you will fall like the villain in so many fairy tales..." -BoardGameGeek.com

With fish, you get valuable cans; collect the most cans and you become Top Cat!" -BoardGameGeek.com

Way of the Panda "The once-prosperous Panda Lands have been overrun by a merciless ninja brotherhood. Anyone that travels the roadways is at the risk of being attacked by bandits. The time has come for the Panda Clans to take back control of their country. Which Clan will be most influential in the rebuilding efforts and win the Emperor's favor? In Way of the Panda, players become leaders of a Panda Clan. They must send their Champions into the land to defeat the ninja menace. Clearing the roadways will make them safe for travel, and allow for the ancient cities to be rebuilt. Eliminating ninjas and constructing buildings will bring prestige to their clan. The player with the most prestige at the end is declared the winner and gets to sit at the right hand of the Emperor." -CoolStuffInc.com
