Madalyn's Games of the Moment For my recommendations this month, I'll be selecting my favorite games to play with beginners! International Tabletop Day is coming up soon and I'm already thinking of a few fun, easy-to-learn games to teach to new board gamers. Sometimes it can be hard to convince reluctant gamers to play certain games, but these are sure to do the trick! International Tabletop Day Saturday, April 28 Library Plaza 10am - 5pm Come to the library and play the day away! I love, love, LOVE all of the web comics and funnies that Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal) does and this card game is nothing short of fantastic! It's super fun and fast-paced which makes it a great game to teach to new gamers. Plus, it makes a great filler game for seasoned gamers, too. This was the first nontraditional board game I ever played and that's why it holds such a special place in my heart. Plus, who wouldn't want to battle it out as a kaiju-inspired monster and take over Tokyo?! Sounds like my kind of party! Okay, I'm totally late to the game (pun intended), but I just played Pandemic a couple of weeks ago and loved it! Now I can see why this is a go-to game for new gamers. The variety of player choices combined with an action-packed theme and straightforward rules makes it a pretty cool game, in my opinion.

Shark Island "Shark Island is a semi-cooperative game for 2–5 players that pits up to four shark hunters against a monstrous great white shark (which is controlled by a player) that is working to terrorize the island. The hunters must work together to maximize their skills to search the surrounding waters and locate the shark before it can bring more terror to the island, or quickly respond after it attacks to do as much damage to the creature as they can. When the shark is found, the hunters engage in a rapid form of combat, intent on killing it or driving it to sea. The shark needs to outsmart the hunters and terrorize the island to accumulate enough terror to win the game... The game ends with either the shark collecting enough terror tokens or the hunters killing the shark."

The missions last just 10 real-time minutes (hyperspace jump, sector scan, hyperspace jump back) and the only task the players have is to protect their ship. The game offers several difficulty levels, huge variability and a unique experience for one to five player teams.
