A Circle of Friends

January is a time for hunkering down, reflecting, and goal setting. The Friends invite you to swing by the library for inspiration and support in your quest for New Year’s goals. As you enter, pause at the lobby bookcase where you will see “Paperback Lollapalooza,” loads of paperback novels, all for a dollar. They’re perfect for stuffing into your luggage for that winter getaway. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to craft a personal goal of reading a certain number of books in 2026.

Inside the entry way doors, the auction table awaits. The theme for January is “Painters of all Stripes,” some famous and others not. You’ll find Renoir and Picasso, but also a painter who depicts ski trails, neurodiverse artists, and others who paint views of Central Park. Take inspiration for your own artistic goal or simply enjoy the mastery of others. Put in your bids!

Meander around the corner to the Book Shop, and pay attention to the Special Sale area. The monthly topic is “Good Intentions.” You will find books and journals on healthy eating, meditation, renewal, tidying up, and soul-searching. Just think -- you don’t have to break the bank to find inspiration, advice, and joy in the new year!

The Friends are grateful to everyone who frequents the book sale areas. Every penny goes to support our beloved library. Happy New Year to all!

Come to the first Teen RPG meetup of 2026, on January 2nd at 1:00 PM! It's a great time to join; an all-new campaign, with an easy-to-use system that's beginner friendly but if you're familiar with D&D 5e, you'll recognize a lot.

Here's a little sneak peak of the adventure:
A hole in an old oak tree leads characters down to a maze of twisting, root-riddled passageways, the chambers of an ancient wizard-complex, and the banks of an underground river where once a reptile cult built their temples. Delve deeply, explore to your heart's content, and find oodles of treasure!
