Discover the LA River Rover This 38’ Mobile Visitor and Education Center travels the streets and freeways of Los Angeles bringing the LA River to you. Designed to educate the curious of all ages, the River Rover takes you through a tour of the river’s past, present and future. You’ll learn about the LA River watershed at the interactive watershed table, touch beaver and coyote pelts, listen to the song of the Least Bell’s Vireo, and design the river as you want to see it in the future. Family Science Fiction Classics Honoring the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
Destination Moon (1950) NR The first major U.S. science fiction film to deal realistically with the subject of spaceflight and the dangers inherent in human space travel in accurate technical detail and the possible difficulties landing on and safely returning from the moon. Received the Academy Award for best Visual Effects, the Retro Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Bronze Bear.
Three Scifi Pioneers Discuss Making the First Great Space Movie (1950) Enjoy this rare kinescope recording. A live TV interview with three giants in science fiction—George Pal, Robert A. Heinlein and Chesley Bonestell — on the set of the pioneering space movie, Destination Moon.
Countdown (1968) NR Based on the novel The Pilgrim Project by Hank Searls, the film focuses on two astronauts vying to be the first American to walk on the Moon as part of a crash program to beat the Soviet Union. Desperate to reach the moon first, NASA sends an astronaut and shelter separately to the moon, one-way. The astronaut must find the shelter to survive.
