Are you registered to vote? If not, you can do so at Shreve Memorial Library this week! In celebration of Louisiana Secretary of State Voter Registration Week, SML has partnered with the Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters Office to host registration drives at the library from now through Friday, August 29. In order to register, you must be at least 17 years of age and a resident of the state and parish in which you seek to register. Be sure to bring your proof of age, residency, and identity with you to register at the library.

Labor Day Holiday Closure August 30 - September 1 All Shreve Memorial Library branches will be closed Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. Libraries will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 2. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend. While the libraries are closed, please remember to utilize the SML e-Branch for all of your library needs including e-book and audiobook checkouts, research, homework help, and more.

The Hamilton/South Caddo Branch is hosting an ACT Test Prep Program on Saturday, Sept. 6 to help students get ready for the ACT. Teens are invited to take timed practice ACT tests in Math, Science, English and Reading. They will also receive additional resources to assist them to further prepare for the ACT on their own. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last approximately 3 hours. Registration is required. Click here for more information.

Decodable books, or decodables, are short books for beginning readers that help them learn to sound out words in order read. These books focus on specific letter sounds and combinations and move from simple to more complex. Reading decodable books lets early readers practice their knowledge of letters and the sounds those letters make. Choose decodable books based on specific skills your beginning reader is learning.
