Summer Smiles and New Skills
Children learn in different ways - through play, touch, artistic expression, and more. That is why Richmond Public Library is getting ready for another busy summer of arts and crafts, musical adventures, books and play - and even tiny farm animals! Librarians, library staff, AND summer interns participate in the fun by supporting children and families during these learning experiences.
Last year we hired 10 interns, one in every branch, and two at the Main Library. Why is this important? Interns increase library capacity at our busiest time of year-summer. The result was a 52.6% increase in the number of children involved in our Summer Reading Program!
Children will learn over summer - and so will our interns! They will gain new skills and make new connections in our community. That is why it is so important that we offer this internship opportunity again (did I mention that 100% of last year's interns would recommend the internship to their friends?)
