"We Girls Have it Good Today!" Experience Revolutionary history up close with author Libby Carty McNamee and historian/re-enactor Cheryl Childress. McNamee’s debut novel, Susanna’s Midnight Ride: The Girl Who Won the Revolutionary War, is an exciting historical fiction novel for teens. Susanna, like most colonial girls, is expected to tend to the house while her brothers are off fighting the battle for freedom. But, Susanna is not satisfied living behind the scenes. When she overhears British General Cornwallis’ plan to defeat the Patriots, she knows it is up to her to win the war. The author will discuss her writing process and what excited her about Susanna’s story.The author will discuss her writing process and what excited her about Susanna’s story. Then, to bring this period to life, Cheryl Childress will discuss what life was like for teen girls during colonial times. Childress will come dressed in typical period attire and bring authentic tools for viewing. She’ll demonstrate what skills colonial girls needed to be successful. Perhaps you’ll leave thinking “we girls have it good today!” Following the program, both speakers will be available for Q & A and McNamee’s book will be available for purchase and signing.
