Black Music of Two Worlds in the Poetry of Langston Hughes Monday, February 5 7:00 p.m. Enjoy this lecture by Prester Pickett, M.F.A., which utilizes his theater background to highlight various genres of music spanning from the negro spiritual and patriotic songs, to the blues, and jazz that were chronicled in the poetry of Langston Hughes. This presentation emphasizes the concept of double consciousness that was introduced by W.E.B. DuBois in his turn-of-the century book, The Souls of Black Folk, and settles on the message that Hughes brought in his 1926 essay for The Nation, “The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain."
