Early History of the Irish in Cleveland - Their Stories, Challenges, and Rapid Assimilation into American Life Wednesday, June 13 at 7:00 pm Who were these first Irish immigrants to the Western Reserve that chose to settle in the Cleveland area and then convinced their family, friends, and neighbors to also relocate here? Bernie McCafferty’s talk will examine these early settlers to the Cleveland area - how they got here, where they lived, their occupations, and the religious and ethnic discrimination that they encountered while pursuing the American Dream.

Bocce – The Wickliffe Tradition Wednesday, June 20 at 7:00 pm John Vourlis, film instructor at Cleveland State University, will discuss the making of his documentary film, Breaking Balls, at the Wickliffe Public Library on Wednesday, June 20th at 7 pm. John spent four summers (2013-16) filming the Challenge Cup of Bocce held at the Italian-American Club in Wickliffe. This August, the 34th tournament will be played in Wickliffe. Bocce in Wickliffe has a history, a family tradition and a skill that transcends ethnic borders. Join us for John’s talk & view clips from the documentary film.

History of the Medal of Honor Thursday, July 26 at 7:00 pm Few military decorations for valor existed when the Civil War began, but that changed on July 12, 1862 when President Lincoln approved creation of the Medal of Honor. This program will provide a detailed history of the award now revered as the nation's highest military decoration and will also examine some of the Civil War's most interesting and notable recipients. Presented by Todd Arrington, James A. Garfield NHS.
