Summer Reading for All Ages! 
 
 
Plot your escape this summer at Charleston County Public Library as we host our 2025 Summer Reading Program, Read Around the World. In partnership with Charleston County School District (CCSD), this year's program invites readers of all ages to explore new worlds through books, earn prizes along the way, and enjoy special events throughout the summer. Prizes are available while supplies last. Exploring International Flavors 
Wednesday, July 16 from 10-11:30 a.m. 
Flavors and seasonings change everywhere you travel. Explore the spices and cooking methods of international cuisine, from the cold northern climes of China to the lavender fields of Provence and the sun-drenched streets of Morocco. With professional chef Rebecca Antill, participants will create dishes from a specific country, learn food traditions and methods of preparation from around the world.

Do you need a little help with your new laptop, phone, or tablet? Would you like to see some popular laptop and tablet options before making a purchase? Drop in and play with our “tech toy box” or see a Tech Team member for assistance with your own device. First come, first served. Additional appointments may be necessary. 
 Using the Mouse and Keyboard 
Wednesday, July 23 from 2-4 p.m.
Practice clicking, double-clicking, clicking and dragging, and scrolling with the mouse. Then practice typing and editing text, numbers, and symbols with the keyboard. No previous computer experience expected.

Reading with the RiverDogs at Berkeley Electric Cooperative
(ages 5-11)  
Wednesday, July 2 at 11:30 a.m.   
Join us for fun baseball-themed stories and songs with Charleston RiverDogs players, who will be reading books in English and Spanish. Lunch will be served afterwards with an opportunity to pose for photos with the players and your favorite mascots! Geared to ages 5-11 but all ages welcome. No registration required.  
 
 Throwback Thursday Film Fest  
Thursdays, July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31
 from 2-3:30 p.m.  
A weekly program that showcases classic animated and live-action movies from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s, offering a fun, nostalgic trip down memory lane for parents while introducing the films to kids. Bring your own blanket

Japanese Magical Journey 
Thursday, July 17 at 4 p.m.  
Combining traditional Japanese theatre, music, origami, magic, and storytelling, Yasu Ishida will guide audiences to the enchanting land of Japan. He will share excerpts from a Japanese traditional folktale with origami and a Japanese traditional vaudeville act with the playing of a traditional flute. All ages welcome.

Shibori Tie-Dye (ages 5-12)

Explore the ancient Japanese art of Shibori tie-dye! Kids will learn traditional folding and dyeing techniques to create unique, beautiful fabric designs. Discover the history behind this fascinating craft while making your own vibrant creations! We recommend bringing your own items to dye,
as materials will be limited.

Read with a Therapy Dog
Saturday, July 26 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. 
Build confidence in reading by practicing with a STAR therapy dog. Many studies show that reading skills can often be improved by reading aloud to a therapy dog, an audience that is nonjudgmental.

Come build with us! Connect with other builders using LEGOs to create a masterpiece. Please bring your own LEGOs. We have a few but recommend bringing your own! This club is geared

Reading Buddy Sleepover  
Thursday, July 31 from 2-6 p.m. 
It’s a slumber party for your reading buddy! Drop them off anytime between 2-6 p.m. and make personalized sleep masks and nametags for them. Pick up your buddy the following morning and see photos of what they were up to during the night!
