Our 2018 Summer Reading program has come to a close after nine great weeks of books, beads, and activities - and of course music, thanks to this year's slogan of "Libraries Rock!" Many of our summer events followed the musical theme including ukulele workshops for teens and adults, karaoke coding, a concert by local folk musician Katie Dobbins, crafts for all ages, Disney music trivia, and movie screenings.

The program officially closed with our "Rescues Rock!" Summer Reading Fest on Saturday, August 18th. Survivor Tails Animal Rescue brought some adorable furry friends looking for a new home. (To learn more about Survivor Tails and the wonderful work they do, visit their website.) The day also featured a K-9 demonstration by Pembroke Police, food by Shinetti's Grill of Marshfield, face painting, games, prizes, and the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library ice cream stand.

Of course, our Summer Reading program wouldn't be possible without all our active and enthusiastic readers! We had a total of 847 participants this year, including 296 adults, 88 teens, 403 kids, and 50 babies. Adults read 1,135 books. Team Narwhal emerged victorious in the teen program with 26,198 minutes read, while Team Llama members read 19,941 minutes. Kids have read 176,651 minutes so far (that's about 2,994 hours or 123 DAYS!) and can continue to log their minutes and collect beads through September 1st.

Want a sneak peak of next year's program? The theme "A Universe of Stories" will focus on space to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Their mission is to inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement. Their grant making, policy development, and research help libraries and museums deliver valuable services that make it possible for communities and individuals to thrive.
