One of Miss Melissa's favorite books of the summer was Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, a charming and joyful debut novel about the first son of the United States and the Prince of England, who strongly dislike each other but are told to play nice for fear of causing (another) tabloid scandal. Soon they find their fake truce turning into something much more real... Melissa says: "I'm not crying, you're crying (happy tears)! In a classic trope of enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, Alex and Henry are an endearing pair with undeniable strength and personality that makes all readers root for them. The elegant prose sets the scene for an incredible love story and delivers with a cascade of emotions and stolen moments. While there is always a touch of sadness and apprehension that comes paired with realistic queer love stories, McQuiston balances this through sweet, uplifting moments that help Alex, Henry, and readers forget about the cruelty that can exist and focus on the kindness that can be found."

Check out Kazoo, a new addition to the Children’s Room magazine collection at PPL. This quarterly print magazine for girls ages 5-12 (and their allies) was created in 2016 by a mother who couldn’t find what she was looking for in a magazine for her daughter. Kazoo has since won two consecutive Parents Choice Gold Awards (2018, 2019) and is the only kids magazine in history to win a National Magazine Award for General Excellence (2019). Every issue is ad-free and printed on 100% recycled paper. Kazoo celebrates girls for being “strong, smart, fierce and, above all, true to themselves.” By featuring inspirational women in a wide range of fields, Kazoo strives to give girls representation and role models in positions of power and influence, building their foundation of self-esteem and worth, so that as they get older they can keep making their own noise! Regular features include science experiments, comics, art projects, recipes, interviews, jokes, and mazes. The fall 2019 publication is The AWESOME Issue, celebrating this beautiful, mystifying, awesome world we live in!
