Dighton Public Library
March 2026
The Library may have been closed for a couple of days due to the recent snowfall, but we are back open and offering a full slate of programming for March. James Wadsworth of Stonehill College returns to Dighton on March 5th for a special presentation on the Inquisition in Colonial Brazil. For those looking for a creative outlet, local author and novelist J.W. Elliot returns to Dighton on Saturday March 28th for his second creative writing workshop. The Library is also hosting Needlework Night on March 5th, and our very own Laura the Librarian will be guiding an acrylic paint class on March 19th. American Mah Jongg lessons will continue every Thursday in March, and the Cooking Club's next meeting will be March 19th. Dighton Town Administrator Ralph Vitacco will visit the Library on March 12th to host a public information session regarding the debt exclusion and the questions on the ballot for the upcoming town election. Speaking of the town election, the Friends are once again hosting Candidates Night on March 30th at the Dighton Middle School where you can ask questions and get to know everybody running in the upcoming election. The next Friends meeting will be on Thursday March 5th at 4:30 in the Library, so feel free to stop by if you are interested. The Friends are always looking for new members who love the Library, and all are welcome. Don't forget to check our calendar to see everything else we will be offering in March.

March Programs
The Inquisition in Colonial Brazil
Join Inquisition expert Professor James Wadsworth of Stonehill College on Thursday March 5th at 6:00 in the Program Room for a special presentation on the Inquisition. In the late 1730s, Catholic missionaries in Paraiba (Brazil) noticed a "new invention" of "diabolical witchcraft" among indigenous villages using psychoactive plants. The colonial government informed the Inquisition so they could stamp out the movement. They failed, and the movement persisted into the modern era, demonstrating the resilience of indigenous people in forging their identities. This program is free to attend and no registration is required.
Creative Writing Workshop: Writing Scenes that Grab the Reader
The scene is one of the most important building blocks of any story. Join local novelist J.W. Elliot on Saturday March 28th at 11:00 in the Program Room for a workshop that will examine the two basic types of scenes and how to build them while looking at the structure of scenes and techniques for using scenes to create narrative drive, suspense, pacing, and conflict. This program is free to attend and no registration is required, so if you are a beginning writer or a jaded professional, you will find useful insights into the power of crafting unforgettable scenes.
Public Information Session: Debt Exclusion Discussion
Do you have questions about the upcoming debt exclusion? Then join Dighton Town Administrator Ralph Vitacco on Thursday March 12th at 6:00 in the Program Room for a clear and informative presentation regarding the debt exclusion questions appearing on the 2026 Annual Town Election ballot. This session is designed to help residents understand the purpose, impact, and long-term implications of the proposed measure, including what a "yes" vote means, what a "no" vote means, and how each outcome may impact Dighton. This session is free to attend and no registration is required.
Acrylic Paint Class with Laura the Librarian
Do you enjoy painting? Want to bring your painting to the next level by adding some color theory to your approach? Then join Laura the Librarian on Thursday March 19th at 6:00 in the Program Room and learn some color theory while painting a still life in acrylic or tempera paint. Laura will give a guided demonstration on color theory and the different ways it can make your painting richer. All levels of experience are welcome, and materials are provided. The class is free, but registration is required. Please call the Library at (508) 669-6421 to reserve your spot
Needlework Night
The first Thursday of each month is Needlework Night. Bring all your knitting, crochet, and needlework projects on Thursday March 5th at 6:00 and be among fellow needlepoint enthusiasts to trade tips and work together. There will be needlepoint teachers on hand to help instruct those looking to learn new skills. Needlework night is free to attend.
