Students from William & Mary's Law School are coming to discuss some of the concerns regarding the use and manipulation of personal information on social media platforms. They will talk about the potential liabilities these companies will face from regulatory authorities and how this may impact everyday people. 2 p.m., SC Power in the Panels is a monthly group for graphic novel enthusiasts (18+, please) who want to read and talk about independent graphic novels. This month, read any graphic novel dealing with themes related to mental health. 7 p.m., SC 10/9 -- Fellowship in a Ring: A Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book GroupFellowship in a Ring meets monthly to discuss science fiction and fantasy books, films, television, and pop culture. We create and distribute a short list of recommended books and topics at the prior month's meeting, but readers are also welcome to share other titles or simply join in the group conversation. 7 p.m., JCCL 10/10 -- Thursday Film Series: IreneThis charming musical comedy about a shop girl finding love and success is based on the play that was the longest running show in Broadway history for the two decades following its original production in 1919. 2 p.m., WL Theatre 25 years after UVF member Alistair Little killed Joe Griffen's brother, the media arrange an auspicious meeting between them. 7 p.m., WL Theatre With an abundance of falling leaves, now is a great time to start thinking about composting. VCE Master Gardener Justin Diaz will explain the science behind making compost and help you get started planning your own compost pile. 11 a.m., JCCL Please note that the "Open Mic with Chesapeake Bay Writers" program originally scheduled for 10/13 has been moved to 10/20.

Programs and Events for Kids

Our puppets and teen puppeteers visit each month for a fantastic storytime. Sing and dance with our puppets and enjoy books, flannel board stories, and other activities. Recommended for ages 3+. 11 a.m., SC LEGOs facilitate open-ended play -- the opportunity to play without structure, to build and take apart as necessary. With no directions, no mistakes, and no external goals, kids develop creativity and manual dexterity while they have fun! Due to small pieces, this drop-in playtime is recommended for ages 5+. 2-4, WL Chess Open Play is designed for kids, but is open to players of all levels and ages, from beginning to advanced. Come learn to play the game, or deepen skills by playing with others. Chess boards and pieces are provided. 2-4 p.m., WL
