Compassion in Action: Navigating the Challenges of Caregiving Tuesday, March 31, 6:30 pm Join staff from Cedar Valley Hospice for an informative and supportive program that will explore what it truly means to be a caregiver and the often-unseen sacrifices that come with supporting a loved one. Participants will learn about the Caregiver’s Bill of Rights, practical strategies for coping with stress, and meaningful support tools to sustain their well-being. The session also addresses caregiver grief and loss, offering guidance, validation, and trusted resources for navigating the emotional complexities of caregiving. This program is free and no registration is required. This is a One Book Indee event and adults in attendance are eligible for prize drawing entry. Peeps Diorama Contest Monday, April 6 – Monday, April 13 The Independence Public Library is hosting a Peeps Diorama Contest for all ages! Create a book-, movie-, or (new this year!) TV show-themed diorama and bring it to the library during library hours Monday, April 6 through Thursday, April 9 for display. The public will then vote for their favorite from Friday, April 10 through Monday, April 13 (and to keep voting fair and focused on creativity, participants are asked to keep their dioramas anonymous). Winners will be notified the week of April 13. Tax-Aide with AARP* Friday, April 10, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm AARP/RSVP Tax-Aide is offering free tax return preparation for the upcoming tax season at the Independence Public Library. There is no age limit or income limit, but they cannot process for those who had rental income, have a K1 form, sold cryptocurrency, or are a pastor. Appointments are required. To make your appointment, call (319) 334-1019 weekdays between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm or schedule your own appointment at www.vccv.org/taxaide. If schools have been canceled, the tax service will not operate that day and you will need to call to reschedule your appointment. |
