A warm welcome. A cozy craft. A beaut of a book display.
This month, we also celebrate our freedom to read
with both Library Lovers Month & Black History Month.
Black history + library history intersect in groundbreaking ways: Segregation at the American Library Association's conference in 1936led to national library policy reform, and Librarian Dorothy B. Porter was among the first to challenge the racial bias in the Dewey Decimal System. In our more recent history, race-related books are still among the most challenged and restricted in American libraries. The Librarians, a new documentary produced by Nelsonville-born actress Sarah Jessica Parker, examines how communities across the country are impacted and reshaped by such restrictions. Stream it on PBS today (or wait until it's in our collection!)
Join "the Club" through February 28
