Libraries collect many stories in the books on our shelves, but what about other stories? Who preserves the stories told by our parents, grandparents, and ancestors? Longwood Public Library is dedicated to helping our community uncover hidden stories in their family's history to preserve for future generations.

Recording Oral Histories Reserve a one-hour time-slot in October to record an oral history. Bring a parent, grandparent, child, aunt, uncle, cousin, significant other – whoever you want! Digital Preservation Wednesday, September 25, 7 pm Pictures, videos, slides, cassettes - how do you store all of your important memories? We’ll discuss how to preserve these files physically and digitally so you can pass them along to your family.

Celebrating Family History MonthWednesday, October 2, 7 pm Children (Grades 3-6 with parent) Registration begins September 18Decorate and embellish a memory box that you can use to keep photos or special items from a family member. Or, you can make it into a time capsule filled with special items and open them in the future! Our Local History librarian will join us to give tips on how to save your family's history and answer any questions you might have, plus she'll bring along interesting things from the library's collection.

Framed Scrapbook Page Saturday, October 12, 10 am In-person registration begins September 9 Material Fee: $5 Cash (exact change) or credit card Highlight a piece of your family history by creating a framed 12" x 12" scrapbook page. You will need to bring 2-4 photos or small memorabilia items, all other materials are provided, including the frame. If you would like to add a custom die-cut title of your family's name, you must provide that information at the time of registration.
