New Equipment Alert
FastFoto Scanner Now Available!
 
Do you have shoe boxes full of 4 x 6 photo print? The FastFoto may be for you! The Fastfoto can quickly scan photographs in batches of up to 36 photos at a time that are the same size. We do not recommend the FastFoto for delicate, precious, or deteriorating photos. The FastFoto can only scan prints, no negatives or slides.
 
How to book the FastFoto. The FastFoto scanner will be at the same station as the EPSON scanner. If you would like to use the FastFoto, book a time slot at the Scanning station.

Audio Cassette Station Now Available!

Are your audio cassettes collecting dust? Digitize them by using our audio cassette station! Our DIY Audio Cassette Station is up and running for public use!
 
 To use the DIY Audio Cassette Station you need to:
1. Attend (in-person) or Complete (online) the DIY Memory Lab Orientation.
2. Have a San Leandro Public Library Card: Get one for free today with this online form.
3. Read and sign the User Agreement.
4. Make an appointment to use the DIY VHS/Audio Cassette Station.

If you have physical or digital photos, videos, or personal documents related to living or working in San Leandro, please consider sharing those with the Library/Museum to help preserve local history and culture and ensure that our diverse population is clearly represented in our City's history and present.

VHS Digitization 101

When was the last time you watched what is on your home VHS tapes? Swing by the Main Library to learn about VHS Digitization 101. This will be an interactive & informative program taught by the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) professionals in collaboration with the DIY Memory Lab at the San Leandro Public Library. During this orientation, attendees will learn about the DIY Memory Lab and how to use the equipment to digitize analog formats. Content will cover policies, expectations, types of media you can digitize, equipment, opportunities to donate your digital photos with the San Leandro Public Library & Museum's catalog, and much more!
 
This free event will be held in the Main Library History Room on the second floor.

How to Digitize & Document Your Family History
Thursday, October 12, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
In-Person at the Main Library
No Registration Necessary
 
This session takes you into the physical and virtual world on how to build a multimedia family library. We will review “how to”  scan and restore photos, reveal free/cost effective multimedia conversion resources, learn about free library resources to help you get started and demonstrate a digital family history book. You will walk away knowing key resources, best practices, and tips on how to create your own family legacy.
 
About The Speaker: Ron Chan
 
Ron has lectured on the principals of documenting family history at nine consecutive Genealogy Workshops, presenting and teaching how to create novel and compelling ways to bring family history to life. He is Founder and Executive Director of the Bay Area Chinese Genealogy Group, whose mission is to share, educate and tell the story and struggles of the past, so future generations may know their roots.
