Teens for Warmth 
(sponsored by the YCPL Teen Advisory Board)
January 1-February 7

Join the YCPL Teen Advisory Board this winter as we work together to support York-Poquoson Social Services. The colder months can be especially challenging for individuals and families in need, and your donations can make a meaningful difference. We’re collecting essential items such as hats, gently used coats, scarves, gloves and mittens, socks and leg warmers, and hand warmers. Every contribution—big or small—helps someone in need. Donations will be collected at both York County Public libraries through February 7.Thank you for joining us in operation Teens for Warmth!

Let the outside world melt away as you relax while drawing or doodling. This is a drop-in program for adults 18 and up; registration is not required. Whether you're a trained artist, drawing enthusiasts, compulsive doodler, or seeker of new hobbies, there's a seat for you at our table. Basic drawing/doodling supplies are provided - attendees are also welcome to bring their own drawing materials. Art dice are available for anyone needing a bit of inspiration. Wool Felting for Beginners
Saturday, February 7, 2-4 p.m.
Tabb Library Program Room
 
In this beginner-level wool needle felting class, we’ll create some fun Valentine’s Day designs on dryer balls. Your finished project can be used in the clothes dryer, as essential oil scent diffusers, or as décor items. Note: There is a high level of dexterity required specifically for use of the sharp needles. All supplies will be provided, including safety coverings for your fingers. We will be using wool in this class, so keep that in mind if you are sensitive or allergic to wool. Registration is required.
 
Home Security
Monday, February 9, 1:30-2:45 p.m.

Join Deputy Kevin Taylor, Crime Prevention Specialist and Law Enforcement Practitioner for York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office for an informative class on home security. Deputy Taylor will provide education for homeowners on how to secure your home to lessen your chances of victimization. In this class, homeowners will receive information on target hardening by considering things such as windows, doors, locks, landscaping, lighting, etc. Questions are encouraged both during and after the presentation. This class is geared towards adults and seniors. Registration is encouraged.
 
Langley Winds Concert

Join the USAF Langley Winds at Yorktown Library on February 10, 2026. The Langley Winds is a woodwind quintet based at Langley Air Force Base. They are part of the USAF Heritage of America Band. Jigsaw Puzzle Club

Enjoy putting together jigsaw puzzles? Us too!  Come tackle a 300 or 500 piece puzzle with us--if we don't finish, that's okay! There's always next month. Note: this program is meant to be relaxing, not stressful. Leave your competitiveness and strategy at the door.

Have you ever tried to grow your own plants from seed, but had limited success? Come learn some easy techniques and secrets to growing your own flowers, vegetables and favorite plants from seed at home. Increase the variety in your garden and find solutions that work in your area. Participants will go home with their own planted seeds donated by the York/Poquoson Master Gardeners. Note: This activity may get you a little messy, so wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Olympics Watch Party

3D Printing Basics

Learn the basics of 3D printing and object design by making your own dice with the assistance of library staff. There will be brief tutorials of Tinkercad and Thingiverse; prior experience not required. Those personally affected by memory loss and their care partners are invited to enjoy unstructured conversation, refreshments and meeting others with similar memory changes. Bestselling historical fiction author Kate Quinn will present an engaging talk, "Unsung Heroines: Bringing Brave Women of the Past to Life," on her passion for researching heroic women of history across a broad span of centuries. After prepared remarks, there will be an audience Q&A period followed by a book-signing line. Local bookseller The Nook (Gloucester, VA) will be on-site selling copies of Ms. Quinn's recent and bestselling works.
