Homeschooling and School at Home Did you know that we carry Practical Homeschooling magazine? How very practical of us! Even if you aren't homeschooling your children, the magazine contains helpful tips and hints that might make life easier during these times of hybrid and remote learning. There are also curriculum connections at all levels for those parents who might be looking for a way to further supplement their children's education at home. Beyond the magazine, we also carry non-fiction books of all kinds that relate to many or most of the subjects your child is studying. Need some resources? We're happy to help. If it isn't on our shelf, we might be able to put some items on hold from other libraries. It might take a little longer than it used to but we will do our best. Happy learning...at school or at home!

Make Books Part of Your Tradition Whether you celebrate Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah or any other type of winter celebration there are plenty of cool ways to make books part of your family tradition. One of our families celebrates the 24 Books of Christmas. Starting December 1, they place 24 wrapped books under their tree. Every night they open one and read it together. When the family first started, many of the books belonged to the library. (Yup. Wrap, unwrap, read and return!) As part of the tradition they received a new book every year for Christmas and now they no longer need to borrow books to make their nightly reading complete. It has helped them make fabulous memories and is an idea than can easily be adapted to many other holidays. |

What's Your Resolution? It is the last month of 2020, which means it is a great time to start planning your new reading resolution. What is your reading goal for 2021? Do you want to read 50 books? 100? Maybe you just want to read one book, from beginning to end, for pleasure for the very first time. How cool would that be? We attached the Goodreads link for their 2020 reading challenge to give you some inspiration and maybe a place to get started. Join a group or do it on your own. Whatever works. Challenge accepted? Good.

Read It, Watch It! Do you prefer to read the book first and then watch the show or do you do it the other way around? It's kind of like the chicken and the egg debate but with pages and remote controls. Winter break is on the way and right now there are two wintery reads we can recommend for teens that just happen to have shows on Netflix. So read the book, grab the remote, pop some popcorn and wrap up in your favorite blanket...in whatever order makes the most sense to you!
