Storytime Fun Featuring Big Ryan Monday, November 3, Monday, November 10, Monday, November 17 & Monday, November 24 10:30am - 11:30am In the Children's Room Ages 3-5 Storytime Fun featuring Big Ryan's Tall Tales welcomes caregivers and their children (3-5 years) to come to this 5-week series on making stories and language come alive. This program is made possible by the South Shore Family Network. This workshop is a 5-week program. Please make sure you are able to make each week before registering. Afternoon Movie Matinee: "Oppenheimer" Tuesday, November 4 - 1:30pm - 4:45pm At the Adams Center The Kingston Public Library is commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and America's decision to use the atomic bomb with a film showing of the Academy Award winning film, "Oppenheimer." The movie was nominated for 13 Academy Awards in 2023, as it won Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Music, Best Cinemaphotography, and Best Film Editing. Oppenheimer and the atomic bomb: Hollywood vs reality Wednesday, November 5 - 6:00pm At the Adams Center The Kingston Public Library is commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and America's decision to use the atomic bomb with a discussion led by Bridgewater State University professor Dr. Paul Rubinson. He will discuss what is not in the film "Oppenheimer", use of the atomic bomb and other key players in the development of the weapon. Rubinson will also talk about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man himself, and discuss more about the use of nuclear weapons since 1945. This event is generously sponsored by the Kingston Public Library Foundation. Local History Interest Group Thursday, November 20 - 6:00pm At the Adams Center This unique discussion group focuses on topics related to local history, with an emphasis on history related to Kingston and the surrounding area. The aim of this group is to provide patrons with a hands-on opportunity to explore and cultivate an interest in local history on a deeper level and to facilitate dialogue around the various aspects of local history. This discussion group will talk about Kingston's Arcadian connections. This event will be held at the Adams Center (33 Summer Street) in the meeting room on the first floor.
