Our New Children's Librarian: Orion Oak
Hi! I’m Orion Oak (he/him) and I’m the new Head of Youth Services here at the Kingston Public Library. I am from Rhode Island, I recently graduated from Rutgers University with my MI with a school library media specialist certification, and hold a bachelor's degree in Youth Development from Rhode Island College. I’ve been working with young people in and outside of libraries for the past ten years, most recently serving as the Assistant Youth Services Librarian at Richards Memorial Library in North Attleboro. I love to create and explore the world with curiosity- often spending my free time trying out new crafts or walking around in nature. I’m so excited to make this transition and join and serve the community here in Kingston! I look forward to meeting you- feel free to stop by and say hi in the children’s room!

January Art Exhibit

Kingston Intermediate School
5th Grade Watercolor Birch Trees
Abby Bacher, KIS Art Teacher
In December, Kingston’s talented fifth-grade artists created peaceful winter birch tree paintings using watercolor, tape, and paint. Before beginning their artwork, students studied the colors found in winter sunsets and examined the unique characteristics of birch trees. They practiced smooth color blending to capture soft evening skies and learned a new technique for adding texture to bark. Through exploration, creativity, and careful observation, Kingston’s young artists brought their serene winter scenes to life.
