National Poetry Month April is National Poetry Month, and the Salmo Valley Public Library invites our community to celebrate the power of words. The 2026 theme, “Land & Sea,” announced by the League of Canadian Poets and Native Women in the Arts, explores our connection to the earth and water and our shared responsibility to care for the natural world. This month, visitors are invited to contribute to our Collaborative Poem Wall, inspired by the idea that every voice has a poem.
Pick a card, write a line or short poem, and add it to the wall so others can continue. As the month goes on, these individual lines will grow into a community poem shaped by many voices. Need a spark of inspiration? Visit our Poetry Prompt Jar and take a prompt—or a few—until one sparks an idea. Sometimes a single line is all it takes to begin. Feel free to explore Poetry Month in whatever way feels right for you. If you’re not sure where to begin, ask our library staff for poetry recommendations. You might be surprised by the poet in you.
