Mindful Awareness Meditation is open to all.

Our 90 minute session includes a Welcoming time for introductions, sharing and orienting ourselves towards a contemplative space. Individuals are invited to share specifically and/or generally on any areas of interest or concern they arrive with. Those who wish only to listen may pass on sharing.

This time may or may not include short videos or recordings.

We do two meditation sessions, both of which are Silent. Our 1st meditation goes for 20 minutes, followed by a short break for movement, lavatory use or general interaction. Our 2nd meditation runs between 10-15 minutes

We transition with a designated reading and informal farewells. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes early if this is your first time attending.

Real Yoga

REAL YOGA: A Revolution in Science

Free classes available to the public

This is the opportunity of a lifetime for those who can put a bit of discipline into their daily routine, working toward a better quality of life.

The student will learn the most powerful and comprehensive system of yoga practice available on the planet. This science is several thousand years old, and is as vital, valid, and needed today as it was it was from the inception. We will cover the history and philosophy of the lifestyle. Why and how it came about.

Comprehensive training in diet will be covered, looking at food in a way we were never taught in our traditional schooling. The effect of our current diet on disease and accelerated aging will be addressed.

Practice of the yoga "asanas" will be imparted (the stretching poses and aerobic movements associated with the traditional western adaptation of "yoga"). Benefits to your state of physical health will be realized within the first session.

The main focus, the main gem of this program, is guidance on the ultimate inward journey.
The practice of meditation, or "mindfulness". It is here that the aspirant will experience a progressively deeper understanding of Life, leading to a more clear vision of who we are, and why we are here in the first place.

John and Cecilia will be your co-instructors. John trained extensively in the US, Sweden and India, and the two have taught this gift around the world for over 50 years. They are currently administrators for the Newport jail yoga project and have been involved with the NESS Club yoga classes for seniors with disabilities for the past several years. You are in good hands.

Our one and only motive in this offering is for your progress and well being. All we require of you in exchange, is to show up with an open mind and with the determination to implement daily practice of the knowledge and new life skills you will receive. This is ultimately a celebration of you and the beauty you hold within.

Classes are every Friday in the Fischer Room at Driftwood Public Library, in the middle of town: 801 SW HIGHWAY 101, on the second floor (across the street from Burger King, and adjacent to McKay's Supermarket). 1:30 pm until about 2:15. These classes are completely free of any charge. All ages, belief systems, religion, background, previous experience with "yoga" beginner to advanced welcome. Those having questions may email John and Cecilia at yogasource10@gmail.com

Conversations About Living and Dying

Before the Crisis: Conversations About Living and Dying
A relaxed, facilitated open conversation for adults who want space to talk openly about death, dying, and what matters most—before decisions feel rushed or forced.
There is no presentation, no teaching, and no therapy—this is an open conversation, shaped by the people in the room.
You are welcome to speak, listen, or simply be present—silence and listening count as participation.
Coffee and conversation.
Questions encouraged.
No pressure. No agenda.

Who this is for
Adults who are thinking about the later chapters of life—for themselves, for loved ones, or because the questions are beginning to surface.
What this is not
Not a class
Not a support group
Not medical or religious
So what is a Death Café?
The Death Café movement began in East London in 2011, initiated by Jon Underwood, who was inspired by the work of Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz. Crettaz had previously organized 'Café Mortels' in Switzerland and France, aiming to break the societal taboo surrounding death.
Underwood's idea quickly gained popularity, and Death Cafés began to spring up worldwide. Today, there are thousands of Death Cafés in various countries, each one facilitating open conversations about death in a respectful and confidential environment.
These gatherings are not associated with any specific religion or belief system. They are inclusive spaces where people of all backgrounds can share their thoughts, experiences, and fears about death. The conversations can range from philosophical discussions about the nature of death to practical considerations such as end-of-life planning.
Our gatherings are facilitated by Laura Lathrop, retired hospice and palliative care nurse practitioner and end-of-life doula.

Oregon Coast Aquarium Culture Passes!

We realized that it's not possible for everyone to be at the library when we open on the first of the month, so to make distribution of our Oregon Coast Aquarium Culture Passes as fair as possible, we've made some changes to how we’ll distribute them: we will now be drawing names for passes on the first of each month.

Only adult Driftwood cardholders are eligible to enter the lottery. To enter, simply visit the library, give us a call at 541-996-2277, or email librarian@lincolncity.org. We'll need your name and phone number, and we ask that only one person per household or family enter their name for the lottery. You'll only need to enter the lottery once: those entrants whose names aren’t drawn will automatically be rolled into the next month’s lottery.

Each pass allows the cardholder and three guests free general admission to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There are four passes available per month.  Passes check out for up to 30 days, and can be checked out once per calendar year. To add your name to the lottery list, call the library at 541-996-2277. Please have your library card ready.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Franz Bakery Foundation, U.S. Bank, the Doris & Michael Garcia Fund, the Oregon Cultural Trust, and the Lincoln County Cultural Coalition.

Give the library a call at 541-996-2277, press 4 at the menu, to schedule your curbside appointment.
