A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST
For a brief period in the late 1950s and early 1960s before the Rodman Public Library was built, the library was known as Alliance Public Library. The float in the 1961 Carnation Festival Parade was titled Pages of History and written on the back of the float was “Education, Information, Recreation.”  In the photo, the float is passing the College Inn, located at 2 E. State Street, while heading north on Union Avenue which was State Route 80 in 1961. This photo is one of thousands of items of media found  at alliancememory.org, a collaboration between Rodman Public Library and the Alliance Historical Society, which is a partner of the Alliance Area Preservation Society and Castle Crusaders, two other historic resources in the Carnation City. Collectively, they are known as the 3 Families. Alliance Memory offers a view of history through photographs, personal recollections, and documents. To access RPL's local history and genealogy resources, visit rodmanlibrary.com/genealogy, or call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.
