Summer Reading Underway at RPL Adventure begins at your library this summer. Rodman Public Library invites all of its patrons – young, mature, and anyone in between – to take part in the 2024 Summer Reading Program. The program, which will run from Tuesday, May 28 through Saturday, July 27, will feature three divisions, including one for children (up to 12 years old), one for teens (ages 12 to 18) and one for adults (18 years and older). Patrons can sign up in person at the Main Library, the Branch Library, or on the Bookmobile. Patrons may also sign up online at rodmanlibrary.beanstack.org, or through the Beanstack app, which they can download on a mobile device. Patrons can register to take part in the 2024 Summer Reading Program starting May 28.

Main Library Kickoff Event The Main Library will hold a kick-off event from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 that will feature a petting zoo, face painting, games and more.

Branch Library Kickoff Event The Branch will hold a kick-off event from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 7 that will include a scavenger hunt, face painting, games, and more.

Barretts to Tell Tale of an Old Abolitionist
Ahead of the Juneteenth holiday observance, husband-and-wife team Frank and Michal Barrett will present "In Search of an Old Abolitionist" in Rodman Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 17. The program details how an inquiry from one historical society to another led the couple on a fascinating research journey that gave them a glimpse of what life was like in the area circa 1846.

Tabletop Gaming A popular all-ages program is held monthly at the Main Library when a new game is featured. The next program is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12. Of course, other games available in the library’s collection will also be available for visitors to play and those attending are always welcome to bring their own games. The aim of the family program is to give area residents an opportunity to gather with others to play their favorite board games and make new friends. Light snacks will be offered and no registration is required to attend. Although the program is open to players of all ages, children under 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Books and Coffee The Books and Coffee Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. True Crime Junkies The True Crime Junkies, a book discussion group, meets at 6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection for the June 18 meeting is Searching for Savanna: The Murder of One Native American Woman and the Violence Against the Many by Mona Gable Books can be obtained through the Rodman Library catalog or the Ohio Digital Library. Alliance Vinyl Club Open to all music lovers, Alliance Vinyl Club will undergo a schedule change in 2024, meeting every other month. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each even-numbered month — February, April, June, August, October, and December — inside the Main Library auditorium. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 7. Supported by Friends of Rodman Public Library, AVC provides the opportunity to listen to music, hang out, and make new friends. Those attending are encouraged to bring some of their favorite records to share a selection or two with others.
