Get Ready for School with our Backpack Exchange
This summer, we are helping our community prepare for back to school in a really unique way.   We are currently collecting donations and will be hosting a backpack exchange between August 18-28 - just in time for school.

We will also be accepting monetary donations that will support subsidized memberships for families in our community who may not be able to afford a library membership.

How it Works

Donation Drop-Off (June 20 – August 14):
Community members are encouraged to donate clean, gently used backpacks and school supplies.
  • Donations can be dropped off at the Library during regular hours.
  • Accepted items include backpacks, notebooks, pencils, folders, markers, calculators and other basic school supplies.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to clean out extra supplies that you purchased for your children who are now in older grades and won't be needing them.
  • Backpacks should be clean and in good repair.
Exchange Week (August 18 – August 28):
Families are invited to browse and select from the available backpacks and supplies.
  • Fill a backpack with the supplies you need.
  • Donations — any monetary contributions during his event will support library memberships for local families and individuals experiencing financial hardship.
  • Food donations for the South East Rocky View Food Bank also accepted - bonus points for safe items (allergen free) that can go into school lunches!
Goal:
To support local families by providing a sustainable, community-focused way to prepare for the new school year through the exchange of gently used backpacks and supplies.

August at the Library
Bibliotherapy Thursdays in August (Ages 7-8)

Our library is excited to host a special bibliotherapy program led by Arneli Santiago M.C. (cand.) a practicum student with a passion for children’s emotional development, and supervised by Vicky Minhas B.Ed., M.C. R.Psych. Designed for children ages 7 to 8, this weekly session blends storytelling, group discussion, and hands-on creative activities to help children explore their feelings, develop empathy, and build important social-emotional skills—all while having fun. Through thoughtfully chosen books and guided conversations, children will learn healthy ways to express emotions, understand others, and grow more confident in themselves. Each session also includes engaging art or play-based activities that reinforce the week's sessions in an interactive way.

Fall Parking Lot Closure
In late-September/early-October, the parking lot in Langdon Park will be closed to allow paving by Rocky View County!   This is very exciting for our community!   Even more exciting is that this will pave access right up to the Library - making our facility even more accessible.

For the duration of the construction, our incoming holds will be delivered to Chestermere Public Library. In the interest of accessibility, the library will be closed for the duration of the parking lot construction. This decision will also help reduce confusion for patrons who are being temporarily re-routed to Chestermere during this time.   We will provide further information in our September newsletter.

We appreciate your understanding.  We are certain this minor inconvenience will be more than made up for by the easier long term access to the Fieldhouse, Qualico Resource Centre, and Connection Courts!
