Beyond the Books
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month!

For National Library Card Sign-Up Month, we are celebrating all month long with new contests, challenges, and perks. If you know someone who hasn't yet signed up for a library card, there is no better time!

Library Card Design Contest

Design our next library card! We are hosting a contest for our community members--by our community members. The theme is One Card, Endless Possibilities.

You have all of September to design a library card either digitally or traditionally. One winner from each age category (Kids, Teens, and Adults) will be selected, and we have your design printed on a limited edition library card.

View the complete list of rules on our website.

Designs can be turned into the Help Desk or emailed to Angela at aspatafore@bridgeportwv.gov.

Read to Feed (September 1- December 31)

With Read to Feed, the more you read, the more you feed. We are so glad you are helping us in our mission to end hunger and poverty. When we all work together, big things can happen! Readers track their own books, earn badges and unlock donations by meeting reading milestones.

For every 2,000 minutes read, a flock of chicks will be donated.

Log your reading and complete the activities in your Beanstack App or on the web. Collect badges and finish activities while you learn about Heifer and how to help people around the world. Happy reading! Read to Feed is brought to you by Beanstack and Heifer International.

Register at bplwv.beanstack.org or on the Beanstack Tracker app.

Reminder that we are still trying to complete our community goal of 1 million minutes read by the end of 2025! This is a great way to help us reach out goal while doing good.

Pop-Up Library at the Parks

We will be setting up pop-up libraries across the different parks Bridgeport has to offer! This will be a great opportunity to stop and sign up for a library card on your morning walk. We will also have a small selection of items to check out.

The Pop-Up Library runs every Wednesday in September from 10:00-11:00 AM at the following parks:
  • Deegan & Hinkle Lakes Park on September 3
  • Bridgeport City Park on September 10 & 24
  • Compton Park on September 17

Makerspace Open Hours (New Hours)
Now every Monday from 2:30-4:30 PM!

We have listened to the feedback we've received about the hours of the Makerspace Open Hours and have adjusted accordingly starting in September. We have also changed the format of the event to prioritize safety and efficiency. Now instead of bringing out all of our equipment, we will be focusing on just one tool each week.

Please check out our event calendar for a full schedule.

If the Open Hours still does not work with your schedule, we are also offering 1-on-1 Makerspace appointment times. In these appointments, you get to pick out the equipment you want to use, and staff will be there to help you.

Note: Some of our equipment requires you to bring materials from home.
