2024 Summer Reading Wrap-up Thank you to everyone who participated in Portland Library’s 2024 Summer Reading Challenge by reading, attending programs, completing our extra challenges to earn bracelet charms or volunteering to help run our programs or staff our volunteer desk. An extra big THANK YOU goes out to the Friends of the Portland Library for funding the activities, prizes and all other aspects of this summer’s program. We hope you had as much fun as we did! 377 kids and teens registered for summer reading 7,750 days read 56 programs offered for kids and teens 2,235 people attended our kids and teen programs 2,468 motivational charms given to those who met reading benchmarks We're looking forward to next year!

Fall Storytimes Fall storytimes will begin the week of September 9. Registration is required for each program and space is limited. |

October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Stories, songs and rhymes that encourage literacy and social skills and help get your preschooler prepared for kindergarten. We will offer a craft each week that can be done at the library or brought home.

October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 Mother Goose on the Loose, a fun-filled interactive session for our youngest patrons, uses rhymes, a story, songs, puppets, scarves, and more to stimulate the learning process of babies and toddlers.

Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. September 14, October 5, November 2 Devyn and Lucy from Middletown High School’s animal ambassador program are back for monthly visits this school year! Kids between the ages of 3 and 12 can make an appointment for a 15-minute session to read to Lucy. BENEFITS: - Boosts Reading Confidence

Wednesday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m. Create your own decorative glass mushroom lamp in this month’s Family Craft Night. This activity has steps that are appropriate for all ages, but a parent or guardian must be with children to help with supervision.

Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. Grades 3-5 September 12, 19, 26 at 3:30 p.m. Build, play, and share your own video games! We will be working in teams of two to create every aspect of video games, from characters to scenes to power ups using the Bloxels app and gameboards.

Monday, September 16 at 3:30 p.m. Students in grades 6 and up are invited to join us to make a custom caramel apple with their choice of toppings. While you wait for your apple to cool, make an optional fall lantern with fabric leaves, mod podge and a tea light.

Saturday, September 28 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Join the library and Portland Youth and Family Services on the Town Green for a morning of pumpkin painting! Pumpkins and paint will be supplied. A parent or guardian must be with children to help with supervision. In case of inclement weather, we will move inside to the Mary Flood Room.
