National Library Card
Sign-up Month!
 
 
From borrowing books, ebooks, and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time, a library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy. All without stretching their budget.

To sign up for a library card or to learn more about the library’s resources and programs, please visit our website. 
 
There’s something for everyone at the library and signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning for students. It's elemental, really—everyone should have one!
 
During September, your library will host Library Card Sign-up activities. Visit our online calendar for more details. 
 


Did you know we offer a library card specifically for kids, ages 0 to 18, and vulnerable adults? It is called the CMRLS Acorn Card! The Acorn Card allows two books to be checked out at a time with no late fines! See your librarian today and grab the best card ever—a library card!
What's Happening at the Library: 
Thanks to the City of Pearl
Many thanks go out to the City of Pearl and their wonderful staff for ensuring library patrons have a safe, comfortable environment. The City generously purchased several new air conditioning units that are now hard at work keeping the Pearl Public Library cool.

Back to Wizard School 
Step through the brick wall and onto Platform 9¾—our library is celebrating the magic of returning to school!
This special display, generously lent by a private collector, features enchanting memorabilia, props, and collectibles inspired by the wizarding world. From house colors to magical creatures, you’ll discover details that will transport you straight into the stories you love.
 
National American Adventures Month
 Discover the spirit of exploration without leaving the library! Our National American Adventures Month display highlights the breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and unforgettable journeys found across the United States. From epic road trips and outdoor escapades to tales of famous explorers and hidden gems, these books, maps, and travel guides will inspire your next great adventure.

Kid Events (Birth to 12 years):
Lapsit Story Time
Join us for Baby Lapsit Story Time, a special program designed for our youngest patrons (0–18 months) and their caregivers. This cozy, interactive session features rhymes, songs, simple stories, and movement to support early language development and bonding time.
 
Preschool Story Time 
Join us for a fun and interactive Preschool Story Time designed especially for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers! Each week, we’ll explore exciting themes through stories, songs, fingerplays, and movement that spark imagination and build early literacy skills.
 
Pearl Peanuts After School Story Time 
Calling all curious kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade! Join us for a special Story Time designed just for school-aged readers. Each session features exciting read-alouds, fun group activities, and hands-on creativity — from crafts to games and more!
Talk Like a Pirate Day 
Ahoy, mateys! Set sail for the library as we celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day with swashbuckling fun for kids. Learn some pirate lingo, enjoy sea-worthy stories, and make a crafty treasure to take home. Dress in your best pirate gear and get ready for a jolly good time on the high seas of imagination! May the best pirate win! 
Teen Events:
Reaping Day
Do you have what it takes to survive the Hunger Games? Join us for an afternoon of free food, trivia, and activities inspired by the world of Panem. Test your skills in strategy, speed, and survival, compete for prizes, and see if you can earn the title of Victor. Costumes are welcome—may the odds be ever in your favor!
Teen Hangout 
Join us for a relaxed, creative afternoon inspired by The Quiet Year, the storytelling game where communities rebuild after collapse. Together, we’ll map out a unique world, tell its stories, and decide how it grows through the seasons. No experience needed—just bring your imagination! Snacks will be provided, and all materials are included.
Graphic Novel Book Club 
This month, we’re diving into My Heart in Braille, a heartfelt story about friendship, determination, and following your dreams. Join fellow readers as we explore the characters, artwork, and themes that make this graphic novel so moving. Whether you’ve read it cover to cover or are just starting, all teens and adults aged 16+ are welcome to join the conversation.

Create & Connect*
Looking to unwind, get creative, and meet new people? Join us for Create & Connect — a relaxed, social evening designed to spark creativity and community. This event meets twice monthly!
*This month, Create & Connect will be held the second Monday, September 8th, due to our Labor Day closing!  
Rest & Restore Yoga 
Join us for a free, all-levels yoga class at the Pearl Public Library! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced yogi, this session is designed to help you stretch, breathe, and unwind in a supportive environment.
 
No registration required! Wear comfortable clothes, and water bottles are recommended!
Novel Tea Book Club 
Looking for a good read and great conversation? Join our Adult Book Club, a welcoming space for book lovers to connect, share perspectives, and discover new titles together.
Each month, we’ll read a selected book and come together to discuss themes, characters, and takeaways while sharing tea and other refreshments. This month we will be reading Go Down Moses by William Faulkner! Two different meeting times for your convenience!
Simply Crafts 
Join us for Simply Crafts, a fun and relaxing evening of simple crafts designed just for adults! Whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or just looking to unwind and get creative, this program is the perfect way to take a break and make something beautiful.
 
Each session features an easy, beginner-friendly craft—all supplies provided. Come enjoy great conversation, light refreshments, and the joy of making something with your hands. No experience needed—just bring yourself and your creativity!
 
Friends of the Pearl Public Library Meeting
Love the Pearl Public Library? Join the Friends! The Friends of the Library support programs, events, and services that make our library a vibrant part of the community. At this meeting, we’ll share updates, plan upcoming fundraisers, and brainstorm new ways to help our library grow.
Family and All-Age Events: 
Fire Department
Get ready to meet real-life heroes! The Pearl Fire Department is bringing a fire truck to the library for kids to explore. Learn about fire safety, see the equipment up close, and even peek inside the truck. Firefighters will be on hand to answer questions and share how they keep our community safe.
Chess Group
Want to learn how to play chess?
Know how to play, but need a new opponent? We cover the rules at the beginning of every meeting for new players, cover tactics and will look at a new opening this month: The King’s Indian Attack! Boards and pieces provided, but feel free to bring your own!
Quick Drawing Lessons 
Want to boost your creativity or learn to draw but don’t know where to start? Join us for quick, beginner-friendly drawing lessons at the library! Each session focuses on simple techniques and fun prompts to help you build confidence and sharpen your skills—no experience needed.
Miniature Crafts and Crochet
Discover the joy of crafting in this hands-on class combining the art of miniatures and crochet! Whether you're a beginner or looking to brush up your skills, this free workshop is a great way to learn new techniques, meet fellow makers, and bring tiny creations to life—one stitch at a time.
