Conducting a policy review is a good way to determine if policies are missing or may need to be adapted in the quest for creating and maintaining an inclusive workplace. We will provide an opportunity for participants to begin reviewing some of their own organizational policies through an inclusion lens to assess strengths and gaps in policy. 3D scanning may be riding on the coattails of 3D design and printing technologies, but it has had a long history of useful applications. For thousands of years, people have developed tools and skills to help replicate objects in the real world. Today, there are still many reasons to do 3D scanning. For example, the Innovation Lab, a community-driven solution space located in the Seminole Community Library at St. Petersburg College, has been working on some 3D scanning projects like digitizing real dinosaur bones to bring to schools and shared as holograms, helping a local glass museum import objects into virtual and augmented reality spaces, and more.

June 20 | 11:00am - 12:00pm (MT) Being a board member for the first time means a lot of things: taking on significant responsibility, doing a tremendous service, and committing to learning a lot of new things. But what does a board member actually do? What are your roles, responsibilities and duties? How much time should you expect to commit? What expertise do you need to bring to the table? Many people join boards without knowing the answers to these questions, which sometimes makes the reality of board membership a bit surprising, to say the least.
This webinar will provide participants with guidance about what boards expect of you, and what you should expect from your board. We will cover the fundamentals about being a director, bust some myths, and help to get you ready for board membership.

The Public Library Services Branch Library Board Basics Workshops are open to all library trustees, library managers and library system staff. They are designed to help participants understand the structure of public library service in Alberta, and how to support the delivery of effective public library service in their communities and regions.
In particular, participants will understand: - Libraries Act and Libraries Regulation and other pertinent legislation.
- The structure of public library service in Alberta.
- Library board roles, responsibilities and relationships.
- Library board trustee roles and responsibilities.
- Other important issues such as finances and board effectiveness.
There is no fee for the workshop. Participants will receive a workbook and other support materials, snacks, and lunch. Other meals, travel, and any required accommodation will be the participant's responsibility. Print copies of the Library Board Basics Workshop workbook are available. If you would like a copy please email libraries@gov.ab.ca. A pdf version is available here. An email will be sent to all public libraries when registration opens, which will be approximately 1 month prior to the workshop date.

This course introduces a series of guided meditation and movement exercises that allow your body and mind to relax and refocus. We have spent over 2 years analyzing, planning and implementing outreach in Fremont and the surrounding communities that have helped to increase awareness of our library services and community importance. Some of the partnerships you might look at and say "how does that fit the library" but you can be presently surprised by how well some of these easily fit into our collaboration plans. The main message is "don’t knock it til you try it". We will share some wonderful success stories and how they are making an impact on the future of the library.

During this fun, interactive program, we will explore free online resources to find design ideas, templates, fonts, file converters and more. PNLA 2019 Conference: Libraries Leading the Way Spokane, WA August 7 - 9, 2019 PNLA is the oldest regional library association in the United States and the only binational association in North America. Members come from Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and beyond. Since 1909, PNLA has provided a professional and social forum for librarians, library workers, and library supporters throughout the vast Pacific Northwest region. The PNLA conference is August 7-9, 2019 and will be held in Spokane, Washington at the Centennial Hotel.

The Power of People: Rural Libraries Conference 2019 Grande Prairie, AB September 26 - 27, 2019 Every year, over 150 delegates from school and public libraries in northern Alberta, northern British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories attend Peace Library System's Rural Libraries Conference. This year's conference is themed The Power of People. On September 26 & 27, delegates will have the chance to network, visit the exhibitor tradeshow, and attend a variety of sessions on topics ranging from programming to board relations to collection development.
