Summer Reading Program
Monday, June 12 is the first day to sign up for the Summer Reading Program! All ages, newborns through adults, are welcome to participate. Read and record your reading hours and you’ll be eligible to win a free book and chances to enter a raffle for other great prizes. The more you read, the more chances you have to win! The last day to record your hours and enter the raffle is July 27.

Middle School Students, Sign Up Now for SlamCamp 2017SlamCamp is one insane week of writing, performance, art, friends, and fun for students who will be entering 6th through 9th grade in Fall 2017! It takes place June 19-23, culminating in a Friday evening showcase event on June 23. Please contact Bethany Lee (Purdue Northwest) at btlee@pnw.edu or Robin Kohn (Michigan City Public Library) at rkohn@mclib.org or 219-873-3049 to register. There is a $5 registration fee, which covers all activities, supplies, lunches, and a camp t-shirt! This fee may be waived in cases of financial need.

Attention Video/Film Makers: Submissions Now AcceptedThe third annual Michigan City Video Fest will be August 12 at the library. Mark your calendar now! Submit videos for the festival. Sing Film Showing

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal — some might even say delusional — optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now faced with the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Light refreshments will be served. All viewers under 18 years old who arrive by 10:30 am will receive a chance to win a DVD of the movie. Must be present to win. Free.

Bring your imagination and have fun painting with glow sticks and other luminous items on the big screen. This 30-minute program is for the entire family.

Movies in Washington Park: Monster Trucks

North Pointe Pavilion, Washington Park
The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Department and the library collaborate for summer Movies in Washington Park. The first showing is Monster Trucks, about a teen who befriends an otherworldly creature that’s able to possess his pickup truck. Soon enough, the duo must stop an oil company from wreaking havoc on their town. The movies are shown in the North Pointe Pavilion. The movie begins at dusk (around 8:30 pm). Mark your calendar for July 14 (Moana) and August 18 (The Lego Batman Movie).

1,000 Books before Kindergarten
Register at any time for this free program designed to promote language development and a love of reading in young children. Your child will receive a special surprise (choice of an age-appropriate book or CD) for each set of 100 books that are read to them (or that they read on their own). For children ages birth through entering kindergarten.
