A Universe of Stories: Summer Reading ProgramJune 10 – August 3, 2019 Blast off to a universe of stories with the Summer Reading Program! This all-ages program is a great way to earn prizes just for reading. It’s easy! Just read whatever you want, and then stop by the Youth Services desk to record the number of hours you spent reading. Watch as the hours build and your chances to win prizes increase. The last day to record your reading hours and pick up prizes is Saturday, August 3, 2019.

Enjoy stories, songs, activities, crafts and more with the Story Time Crew! Please arrive a few minutes early to receive your child’s name tag. This program is for children ages birth through 5 years, accompanied by an adult.

Stomp Rockets!

Make a paper rocket and watch it soar from a launchpad made with PVC pipe and a two-liter plastic bottle! Everyone is encouraged to bring an empty two-liter plastic bottle for launch; however, we will have supplies available. This program is fun for the whole family.

Create, discover, and tinker with LEGO WeDo, Micro Bits, paper circuits, Ozobots, and more! For kids ages 6 - 18. Kids 12 and under must have a parent or guardian attend the session with them.

Apollo 11 Webcast

Join STARnet for a Live Webcast Event to celebrate NASA’s 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11’s Historic Moon Landing! What was the sequence of this incredible mission? Where on the Moon did they land? And how did they return safely to Earth? The library will host the showing of a guided recreation of Apollo 11’s journey to see how this mission was executed by crew members and mission control in Houston.

Advance registration required. Design, remix, and explore your creativity with Tinkercad! This session is for children ages 10-18 and serves as an introduction to anyone that is curious about, or interested in, 3D design, art, and printing. Tinkercad is a free online collection of software tools that help people all over the world think, create and make. No prior experience necessary. All registered participants will get a 3D print of their creations. MCPL 3-D printing rules apply. Register at the Youth Services desk or call 219-873-3045 for more info. Space is limited. Printing fee waived for this program.

Movie in Washington Park: Ralph Breaks the Internet

The Michigan City Parks and Rec Department and the library collaborate for summer Movies in Washington Park. Video game bad guy Ralph and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz must risk it all by traveling to the World Wide Web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, “Sugar Rush.” In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet — the netizens — to help navigate their way, including an entrepreneur named Yesss, who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site BuzzzTube. Rated PG. The movie is shown in North Pointe Pavilion in Washington Park, and begins at dusk. Mark your calendar for August 16 for the showing of The House with a Clock in its Wall.
